Drake may want to walk back his 2014 Rolling Stone quotes about Jay Z’s excessive art references and retract a statement calling Rap and art world collaborations “corny.” Sunday, The New York Times announced Drake would be joining Jay Z, Swizz Beatz, and other art enthusiasts in the Hip Hop world via a partnership with Sotheby’s. The multiplatinum rapper will choose the music to preview art during an exhibition of black artwork to be sold at Sotheby’s headquarters from April 28 to June 12. It appears the relative change in his stance on art was not lost on The Times, based on the following:

“The hope is that Drake, whom Sotheby’s calls one of today’s ‘foremost cultural tastemakers,’ will lend some of his aura to bolster its budding private sales business. Unlike some of his fellow rapper royalty, particularly Jay Z and Kanye West, Drake is not known as an art collector. But, according to a Drake spokeswoman, he ‘draws a lot of inspiration from visual artists.’”

The exhibition will contain 20 works including contributions from Jean-Michel Basquiat, Nick Cave, and Kara Walker. You can read the full story at The New York Times website.
