Over the course of a career that saw him make multiple NBA All-Star Game appearances and lead the league in scoring four times, Allen Iverson earned an estimated $200 million dollars. According to Clippers forward Matt Barnes, who played a portion of a season with Iverson on the Philadelphia 76ers, a negligible amount of that cash went to exotic dancers.

“Allen was the first guy that showed me how NBA players spend money in strip clubs,” Barnes told Sports Illustrated in a recent profile. “He’d throw so much money, and this was when I was first in the league, that I used to take my foot and scoop the s— under my chair and either re-throw it or put some in my pocket. He’d throw $30,000, $40,000 every time we went.”

Barnes was likely making the NBA rookie minimum at the time. And while the strip club anecdote reinforces some rumors about Iverson’s self-control and spending habits, Barnes also credits A.I. and Chris Webber for keeping him out of some trouble. Barnes said he had designs on fighting then-76ers coach Maurice Cheeks for chastising him during practice, but Iverson and Webber held him back.

The full profile, which also features Barnes touching on his breakout season with the 2007 Golden State Warriors and his dynamic with the current Clippers team is available at the Sports Illustrated website.
