The star-studded Billboard Music Awards are right around the corner (Sunday, May 15th), already packed to the brim with stars set to perform, including Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, Pitbull, Mariah Carey, Empire‘s Jussie Smollett and more.

Hip-hop’s in the building this year, especially considering that West is the ceremony’s closing act. Taylor Swift‘s new music video starring none other than Kendrick Lamar will also premiere during the show.

To get ready for the big show, relive some of the best hip-hop performances ever to hit the BMA’s stage.

“I’ll Be Missing You” by Puff Daddy feat. Sting, Faith Evans & 112 (1997)

This venerable supergroup of stars, hip-hop and otherwise, gathered at the Billboard Music Awards to mourn the passing of The Notorious B.I.G. in song. A touching tribute to a legend who looms large over the industry to this day.

“Runaway” by Kanye West (2010)

Kanye’s flair for the theatrical extends over to his live rendition to the song that has its own 45-minute short film attached to it.

“The Real Slim Shady/The Way I Am” by Eminem (2000)

Shady spits two of his earliest hits in front of an adoring crowd.

Nicki Minaj & Lil’ Wayne “High School”

Nicki is here to take the BMA’s back to high school, with Weezy himself in tow.

“Rumpshaker” & “Whoomp There It Is” by Wreckx-n-Effect & Tag Team

A 90s hip-hop double team of epic proportion, these back-to-back sets are a step back to a time where hip-hop was simpler. What a long, long way we’ve come, for better and for worse. Wreckx-n-Effect comes in around the 4:21 mark
