What’s been keeping the publicity train rolling for TIDAL since its announcement was the artists behind the service rather than the function. Jay Z did those B-Sides concerts, and Nicki Minaj and Beyonce broke the Internet with exclusives even though a majority of it wasn’t able to see their videos in full.

Star power might work against Spotify, but it isn’t going to work against Apple. They have Drake.

Apple announced the launch of its music streaming service today (June 8) and made it very clear that this was a streaming service backed by a multi-billion dollar company. Apple Music includes:

  • Beats 1 — a live radio station broadcast 24/7 from three hubs: DJs Zane Lowe in Los Angeles, Ebro Darden in New York and Julie Adenuga in London.
  • Connect — social media for musicians. Artists can share lyrics, behind-the-scenes photos and other goodies for fan interaction.
  • $9.99, with a family plan that allows for shared subscription privileges for $15.
  • The new Drake album. He announced that he would be releasing his fourth studio album through Connect. “Instead of having to post your stuff on these different and sometimes confusing places, it’s all in one place: Connect,” Drake said. The release date is still unannounced.

Jay Z’s gonna have to announce a B-Side tour or something to fight this.
