Kids these days.
Michael Jordan hosts a camp yearly to help kids learn the ins and outs of how to truly ball. The camp’s site states “Learn the fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, rebounding, passing, and defense from Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player of all time, along with his first class coaching staff.”
His Airness’ camp is extremely limited and kids who make the cut are pretty lucky. But one kid decided to test his luck and show out by asking Jordan, “What are those?,” in reference to his sneakers.
Jordan’s reaction isn’t clear but the crowd of boys sprawled among the gym floor erupted in laughter.
The reference comes from a Vine that surfaced on the Internet back in June. The 6-second clip shows a girl getting arrested, while an onlooker is more concerned with how the arresting officer dresses. He pans down to the officer’s clunky black boots before yelling out “What are thooose?”
It has spurred countless remakes, and has become a staple-question for when someone’s shoe game isn’t on point.
We know Mike’s still got it, as yesterday we reported on him knocking down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat Jimmy Butler in a shooting contest.
MJ was spotted wearing two pairs of unreleased Jordan XX9s, but was wearing nondescript Jordan lows in the video. While Mike wasn’t rocking some crazy exclusive Jordans that weren’t released yet, it still begs the question of if these kids really appreciate what MJ has done for the culture. The only iconic question regarding sneakers that Jordan should be asked is “Is it the shoes?”
But instead of asking the greatest basketball player ever a serious question, he decided to do it for the Vine.
