In a few days, NBA rookies around the league will seek to prove they’ve earned their spot in the league, lest they be named a bust. However, sometimes it’s all about giving back.

Before playing in his first regular season game, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and his brother Rahlir decided to give his mother a nice little gift: a house.

“She said it was her best birthday ever,” Hollis-Jefferson said in his rookie diary. “That’s huge for me and my brother, and my uncle, who is like a brother to us. … That’s big in our eyes, to be able to do that. Being able to change your mom’s life, to be able to put her in a comfortable situation. … It makes that feeling in your heart go to ease.”

But reading about the gift is different from watching the presentation. Watch the birthday surprise above and try not to shed a tear.
