Twenty-five years into his career, Rickey Smiley seems like he’s just getting started. This week Smiley kicks off his second TV series, a follow-up to first rodeo in 2012 and 2013 with The Rickey Smiley Show. This time though the famously syndicated radio personality and comedian is binning the script and offering fans a close-up view of his actual family, work, and dating life with Rickey Smiley For Real.

Check out our list of five reasons you should definitely be tuning in below.

It’s Unscripted Fun

“After two seasons of working with the ‘ins and outs’ of a scripted series while balancing my radio hosting responsibilities and my personal life, I realized the effort was redundant,” Smiley recently told AJC. “There was a better opportunity to share through a reality lens – showing warts and all – my efforts to maintain a satisfactory professional and personal life as a single father and entrepreneur.” Got it?

It’s Family/Work/Romance Drama/Comedy In One

You’ll soon get a sense of the cast, but for now, here’s a peek at the revolving door of recurring characters: Smiley’s four children (BrandonMalikD’Essence, and Aaryn), his nephew Craig, a live-in assistant named Miss Patt, his personal assistant Miss Price, and like half a dozen more. It’s hectic. And none of that list even includes Smiley’s potential romance interests….

Smiley Is On His Grind

Shuttling back and forth between Atlanta and Birmingham in the midst of an all-too-common work-life tug of war, Rickey Smiley For Real finds the comedian as a father first, and it’s no doubt his most important and demanding job. Especially with his career taking off—stage performances, business meetings, his radio gig—there isn’t a still moment on the show, which is obviously what makes it worth watching in the first place.

You’ll Get To See Da Brat Again

Remember Da Brat? First, shame on you if you don’t. And second, shame on you if you didn’t know that she’s long been putting in work alongside the soon-to-be TV star on his Rickey Smiley in the Morning show. Plus, and as expected, she’s as fun now as she ever was. Just as important, Smiley’s other co-hosts HeadkrackGary With Da TeaRock T, and Juicy are familiar guests too.

Smiley Is Just Getting Started

It’s been a long road to Rickey Smiley’s For Real moment, but now that’s it arrived, it’s pretty obvious he’s just getting started.

Rickey Smiley For Real  is produced by Bobbcat Films and airs on Tuesday nights beginning on November 10th at 8PM EST on TVOne.
