2016 Miss USA Competition - Show

Twenty-six-year-old Deshauna Barber is our newly minted Miss USA – and not only is she a young Black woman breaking down barriers surrounding American beauty standards, she’s simultaneously coming for your gender clichés as an Army Reserve Officer and IT Analyst who’s winning pageants.

The District of Columbia native quickly wowed the world, giving what’s been dubbed the strongest answer of Sunday night’s competition after being asked about the government opening up all combat roles to women.

Deshauna told her audience proudly: “As a woman in the United States Army, I think it was an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military… We are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit, I’m powerful, I am dedicated. Gender does not limit us in the United States.”
