I was almost on the side of this article…almost.

The term “hater” goes a lot further than liquor comparisons- I’ve heard it stretch over into political disagreements as well.

The article lost me after the examples. “Hater” allows the quick responses to disagreement because there is so much intollerance to EVEN LISTEN to the other. No one even wants to listen… so these quick “cotton candy” fit RIGHT in with our fast-paced lifestyles.

I did like the term “bailout terminology” but it was shamefully wasted on a term like “hater.” The same people who holler “hater” in an instant are kin to the people who would yell out a term like “racism” every time there was a disagreement with someone of another race.

You talk about the “state of hip hop” as if it’s on life support or needing reviving, but you fail mention the differences that fall under the term “hip-hop” like music for the youth in their SouljaBoy and OJ down to swag rappers like Jay-Z and Wayne all the way to conscious rappers like Nas, Common, Kweli, etc.

Good concept- Poor execution;

Good article. But for my opinion the word hater didn’t kill Hip-Hop is was the corporate world who got control of it and did whatever they wanted to have the music watered down. For the most part of the term hater is misconstrued cuz itz only used in terms for somebody else doing better than the other and can’t face the fact that he/she is still sitting on their ass doing shit!!! And when a rapper gets accused of being wack he hides behind the term hating….but the real term for a wack rapper is “constructive criticism” a difference lol.

I agree with the article, but I want to add sumthing else…In my opinion, this is the same as peer-pressure and “sticks and stones”…ppl use “hater” as a persuasive method…Don’t waiver on your opinion and shrug dem haters off…If you agree that you are “hating”, show them that you don’t give a fuck that your “hating”, and stick to your personal opinion then the value of the term “hater” drops!

some of us were never affected by the word..but the numbers are so small it couldnt affect what was being played on the radio ,said on TV,videos,clubs.etc. MONEY is bigger than the word hater ..the lawyers that run showbiz !! believe in cookie cutter music..everything has a place but when it shows that big money is to be made..place go’s out the window..we exhaust the talent until it is no more because of money.. every era of showbiz has done it ..greed created the word hater ..when some of us started saying what we didnt like..others were try to justify
a crappy song or video, tv show
etc..so we understand that people dont want tastful anymore because it doesnt sell..crap does !!!! so we silenced critics who know the truth by using the word HATER………

Good article very timely. Thank God the vast majority of the commenters agreed with the article. There are some good positive rappers out there, they just don’t get air time. The Stepin Fetchit’s are the only ones that get played on the radio. That’s ass backwords.

ok…my bad. but actually stupid sayings or rappers don’t kill hip hop. stupid consumers do. if noone liked stupidity, stupid words, slogans, mannerisms, trends, fads, ideals….all that wouldn’t be so grand. shake that booty meat would never be embraced… so hating, haters, snitches, doughboys, bangin, poppin bottles, ridin 20+ inch rims, candy paint, big goofy a$$ shades, sleeping with 20 women a night, prostitution (for the female rappers who claim they coochie is worth at least a bently…you know who u r), beef, shoes, jewelry, etc…all this the good and the bad came to be because of the consumer embracing it. not necessarily because it is the most positive or intellectual idea. hip hop has an ever changing market…and fan base…and it doesn’t seem to be hitting the more intellectuals…so you can want for that as much as you like, or you can find your favorite artists and bump them and ignore the ‘hating’ rappers. but hip hop doesn’t change until the people who listen to hip hop change it. so stop hating.

Why do we WORSHIP celeberties anyway?

I feel you-in the context of which the article was written only. But in reality sometimes some people need to get hated on. I’ll claim being a hater but not like those in the article. hell i even got it on my plates!

I hate from the heart- there is such a thing. Sometimes puting sm1 on blast is the key. I put my neighbor on blast for not keepin an eye on her kids, trickin’, and then frontin’ like shes a church lady when she wants sm1 to watch them in 1 swoop.

I have more like that, but the point being: sometimes hatin’ can actually raise the level of moral or efforts people put into a thing. Only warning to this style of hatin’ is that every now and then one may have to physically help not just talk sh*t!

Oh yeah and ladies…hate that rude guy out yo face in the club when he won’t stop, the embarassment will ususally send him and his lame friends away.

To me personally, the final rose on Hip-Hop’s casket before the 6 foot bed rest was, when Lil Wayne was a nominee for best rapper. And just to show you how much I watch the flip-flop awards. I think it was 2007 when he was nominated and lost to Commen. To tell you the truth, I never watch them. I’d rather have a root canal, but then again, hearing one of Lil Wayne’s songs, or a compilation, ahhhhhh you know what, just hearing his nasal, chalkboard scratching voice is like a root canal with no gas, no anesthetic. Carter’s voice sounds like Steve Urkel with a plastic bag rapped not tight enough over his head. And who gave this dried out, use to be, an electronic voice box. Now he’s trying to sound like T-Pain. He’s more like A pain. He should go back and sit up under Birdman, cuz his shell ain’t hatched all the way. But then again like Birdman could really rap anyway. Most rappers today have no concept of good lyrics. But some rappers out there are doin it right, I’m not speaking on them, but also some are borderline, and then you have F lists of rappers. Who brag, swear, brag, brag and did I forget brag. They talk about each other as if they are better than the other. But they bleed like us all. And soon one day hopefully very soon, they will be forgotten just like Milli Vanilli. Like them 2, these bubble gum rappers need to Rap that Shit UP!

I’m bout sick of the AUTO-TUNE in rap these days…

Eventhough its only been a YEAR since I heard the AUTO-TUNE in Hip Hop, I’m bout sick of it already. Call me a hater, but I really sick and tired of the FUTURISTIC, ALIEN LIKE..ROBOTIC VOICES in rap.

Singers and Rappers are already STUDIO ENHANCED yet they ENHANCE their voices even more with the AUTO-TUNE!!

Call me a hater, but I’m bout sick of hearing the VOCODER, AUTO TUNE, ALIEN FUTURISTIC rapping and singing voices.

I’m also sick of hearing RAPPERS SING…with the exception of CEE LO and ANDRE 3000 and a small handful of others. Not everyone has a singing voice..keep this in mind rappers/singers.

Also, I can voice my opinion HATER OR NOT because I am a producer…I make beats so if I dont like something I’ll just DO IT BETTER. Which gives me the right to voice my opinion..I.E….HATE!!
