Twitter followers may have been fooled into thinking they were following celebrities at times. Impersonators found it easy to act as artists, but many celebrities became irate with this. Kanye West showed his anger with the company in May.
“The heads of Twitter knew I didn’t have a Twitter and they have to know which accounts have high activity on them,” he said through his blog. “Why would I use Twitter? I only blog five percent of what I’m up to in the first place… Everything that Twitter offers I need less of.”
Head of Twitter, Biz Stone, understood.
“Impersonation violates Twitter’s Terms of Service and we take the issue seriously. We suspend, delete, or transfer control of accounts known to be impersonation.”
Expect an account authentification system to begin soon, as Twitter is currently facing a lawsuit from Major League Baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony LaRussa.
