De La Soul announced that they would be working on a new mixtape, “Premium Soul on the Rocks,” and they will solely be working with DJ Premier and Pete Rock on the project.

The group originally planned on releasing an EP, but those plans changed, according to XXL. They will begin working on the mixtape in September.

“Right now we’re just accumulating beats,” Dave told XXL. ”The guys have been sending us beats. No real idea of what the theme is gonna be, the theme behind the title, what that’s gonna be, if it’s gonna be skits, if it’s gonna be songs, remakes, whatever it is. Right now we’ve just been accumulating beats and waiting for Premier to handle some stuff as well. So it’s still in its early stages, but we actually plan on recording through the month of September for it, so we’re getting on it.”
