With the Grammy nominations announced less than a week ago, the Golden Globes Awards was the latest award show to release a list of its nominees earlier this morning.

Ava DuVernay just became the first Black woman to be nominated for Best Director for her work on Selma. In a surprising turn, some of the year’s biggest movies were relegated to the back of pack as a trio of movies consisting of BirdmanBoyhood, and The Imitation Game became obvious front-runners with the Michael Keaton starring dark comedy nominated for a total of seven awards—including best supporting actors noms for Emma Stone and Edward Norton—and Boyhood and The Imitation Game nominated for five each. Both of those second films snagged spots in the coveted Best Motion Picture, Drama category and will be up for the award alongside SelmaFoxcatcherThe Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything.

Birdman faces off against Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest HotelHotelInto the WoodsPride, and St. Vincent—which earned Bill Murray his own individual nomination—in the best comedy category.

Alongside The Theory of Everything’s Eddie Redmayne, Benedict CumberbatchSteve Carell, and Jake Gyllenhaal all snagged nominations for the Best Actor category.

On the TV side of things, the best dramatic series category is full of repeat nominations and a single newcomer in Showtime’s The AffairHouse of CardsGame of ThronesGood Wife, and The Downton Abbey are all up for the same award yet again. Claire Danes of Homeland, Robin Wright of House of CardsJulianna Margulies of The Good Wife, and Viola Davis all pulled nominations for Best Actress In A Drama category. Their male counterparts include Clive Owen for his role in The Knick and Kevin Spacey for his brutal role in House of Cards. 

The Netflix comedy Orange is the New Black is up for three awards, first with a chance at the best comedic series and then separately, Uzo Aduba—affectionately referred to as Crazy Eyes in the show—got a nomination for best supporting actress in a comedy and the show’s lead Taylor Schilling got her own nod as the possible best actress in a comedic series.

A category with growing importance, the Best Mini-Series or TV Movie, has a fan-favorite in True Detective leading the pack while FargoHBO’s The Normal Heart and Olive Kitteridge, and Starz’s The Missing all got nods as well.

For the third year in a row, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host the ceremony. This year’s show, the 72nd Annual ceremony, will air live on NBC on January 11 beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST from Beverly Hills.
