With all the drama featured on their VH1 show, Harlem’s Black Ink Crew could at least rest on its renown as tattoo artists.

Unfortunately for them, that reputation took a hit.

Asabi Barner, a woman in her 30s, told PIX11 that a tattoo job at Black Ink left her disfigured. Barner wanted to cover a chestpiece tattoo she got when she was 18, but after originally praising the work, she found puss oozing from her left breast. She found out from another tattoo artist in South Carolina that the Black Ink artist “overworked” the tattoo, which causes keloids that burn and itch. The tattoo job happened a year ago, and Barner is still feeling the effects. To make it worse, plastic surgeons told Barner that surgery would make her scars worse.

“In the intimate moments it creates a problem because you don’t have that confidence. I wasn’t overly confident before, but I felt good about myself. Felt good about my body, but it just changes you,” Barner said.

The Black Ink crew didn’t return PIX11’s request for comment, which is not a good look.
