A Muslim woman who stood in silent protest at a Donald Trump campaign event Friday was escorted from the rally while Trump supporters chanted “get out” and “you have a bomb.”

The woman, identified as 56-year-old flight attendant Rose Hamid, stood up directly behind Trump just as he began suggesting Syrian refugees were somehow affiliated with ISIS. Marty Rosenbluth, the man sitting beside her, joined Hamid, who was wearing a blue t-shirt that read “Salam, I Come In Peace.”

While Trump is leading the polls, his comments about Muslims have caused a storm of criticism in recent months. It was just last month the Republican presidential hopeful released a statement calling for a “complete” ban on Muslim travel into the United States. The statement, which Trump posted following a tweet that called out what he believes to be the “extraordinary influx of hatred and danger coming into our country” — states the ban should be in place until “our country’s representatives can figure out what’s going on.”

Politicians quickly condemned Trump’s proposal. His supporters, however, hailed the statement as a necessary step to securing the nation’s borders.

During Hamid’s protest, supporters began chanting Trump’s name, a deterrent they were instructed to employ by Trump’s campaign staff in the event of a disruption.

From CNN:

As they were escorted out, Trump supporters roared — booing the pair and shouting at them to “get out.” One person shouted, “You have a bomb, you have a bomb,” according to Hamid.

“The ugliness really came out fast and that’s really scary,” Hamid told CNN in a phone interview after she was ejected.

Trump, ironically, called the disturbance “hatred.”

“There is hatred against us that is unbelievable,” Trump said. “It’s their hatred, it’s not our hatred.”

Hamid, who told CNN she did not plan to disrupt the event, said she only wanted to give Trump supporters “a glimpse of what Muslims are like.”

“I figured that most Trump supporters probably never met a Muslim so I figured that I’d give them the opportunity to meet one,” she said, wearing a shirt that read “Salam, I come in peace.” “I really don’t plan to say anything. I don’t want to be disrespectful but if he says something that I feel needs answering I might — we’ll just see what strikes me.”

Despite her early exit, Hamid did manage to speak with the Trump supporters sitting around her in the stands, several of whom held her hand and said “sorry” as she was forced to leave the venue. “The people around me who I had an opportunity to talk with were very sweet,” she said. “The people I did not make contact with, the people who Trump influenced were really nasty.” One woman Hamid spoke with in line remarked that she “didn’t look scary,” but “like a good one.”

Trump’s camp has yet to comment on the incident.
