Once upon a time you could smoke a cigarette damn near anywhere. I applaud Larry Platt for trying to educate young black men who think wearing pants hanging off ass is somehow cool. The youngsters who embrace this ghetto mentality have respect for neither self nor anyone else. I wonder if guys who wear they’re pants that way realize it all started with prison inmates who were issued pants that were too big. Since you are not allowed to have belts in prison if your pants are too big they will no doubt sag around your waist. Also some inmates request large sized pants because they want to get TOOTY FROOTY IN THE BOOTY WOOTY. So when I see dudes wearing pants like that I ask myself these questions: Is that mutha fuc** gay, an ex convict or both.

Larry Platt, like many other black folks are simply saying that young black men really need to establish a sense of self worth and dignity. When the brotha’s dress that way it sends a message loud and clear that what you are looking at is a black man who embraces the ghetto mentality of worthlessness and self loathing. I still haven’t heard the song cuz my computer’s havin issues and I don’t watch Idol, but I look at it like this…although he clearly made his point, American Idol was the LAST forum he needed to make that point on. True, his message wouldn’t have been heard as loud, BUT…think about the heads the majority of those ears were attached to: WHITE America. I may not have heard the song, but trust and believe I knew all about it soon as it aired…logged onto my Facebook, half the White folk I went to school with (and only a small handful of Black folk) were “fans of Pants on the Ground”…I’m like, “Wtf is ‘Pants on the Ground??’” Then once I found out, I was actually a lil embarrassed.

I don’t know about y’all, but one of the values that was instilled in me comin up was “you don’t air out family business in public”. Mr. Platt is one of our ELDERS, meanin he should KNOW better. And if the song itself is as bad as some of y’all are sayin, then in reality it probably actually did more harm than good…took a MUCH needed message and turned it into a novelty for mainstream, middle-class White America. What I REALLY want to know is, how many White folk have gotten their a$$es handed to em since this song came out, cuz they decided they wanted to be cute and try to tell a brotha to “get his pants off the ground”?? That’s the REAL question.

I like the song and the message. Im a older Black male and as a whole just as white people need to get over themselves. Black people do to. Being silent or not airing so called home issues is part of the BIG Problem with bettering ourselves. When we air our dirty laundry it draws attention to what needs to be washed!!
