While The Grammy Awards are known for bringing together the hottest acts in the music industry, unfortunately some of our most talented artists have never gone home with their own golden statuette. Drenna Armstrong of Madame Noire has compiled a list of black performers whose talents have been overlooked:

Yes, one of the DIVAS of music has never won a Grammy and I just can’t figure out why. I saw her at a Grammy party last night (I wasn’t there, just watching online) so there doesn’t seem to be any anger there but…why haven’t they honored a QUEEN?

NEW EDITION

I was REALLY surprised to read that my favorite child group never won a Grammy. They literally had hit after hit after hit during the 80s and every girl – black and white – wanted at least one of them to herself. I think “N.E. Heartbreak” was their last real chance for a Grammy. NARAS should be ashamed!

Music mogul Russell Simmons has taken up a new cause. He is protesting cow milk as New York’s state beverage. Stop laughing! Simmons is dead serious. The Def Jam founder recently wrote a letter to New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, explaining how milk made from rice, soy, and almonds is better for the body than cow milk. Though dairy farms bring in a lot of money for the state, the change in milk could push new businesses. The money made from a different kind of milk could replace any money New York has lost.

Simmons and Cuomo have a history of working together. The pair worked to have New York’s strict drug laws modified. Cuomo nor his office has responded to Simmons’ ideas. Would you rather drink cow milk or soy? Does anybody still drink milk anymore? Share your thoughts.

Soul songstress, Meleni Smith has released a new album “My Heart In Focus” that highlights her passionate voice and smart and creative songwriting ability.

Meleni was previously signed to Columbia Records but has now taken her career in her own hands, developing a sound that isn’t coming from the cookie cutter R&B mainstream formula.

One of the standouts on the 10–track album is “Grace Jonesin” which pays tribute to the vibrant Jamaican singer with a vintage R&B tune, that harks back to the days of the late, great Etta James.

“Liquid Stars” is an acoustic guitar and violin driven ballad that shows the bittersweet side of love. “The Palm Of Your Hands” is an electronic influenced track that brings a cool vibe with an 80s feel. Meleni outdoes Alicia Keys on the song that Meleni wrote for Keys, “Love Is My Disease.” The track “Only A Fool” is a moving piano ballad that has definite crossover appeal.

The live instruments and various styles create a nice gumbo of musical influences which highlight Meleni’s songwriting chops and distinct emotional voice. Smith has worked with Fugees and Nas producer, Salaam Remi, and she manages to hold her own among the great female artists he worked with such as Lauryn Hill and the late Amy Winehouse.

Before Nick Cannon became Mr. Mariah Carey, he dated Christina Milian who later married The Dream (which ended in divorce). Christina and Nick parted ways after he allegedly cheated.

After several years, the two reconciled on the air! Christina called into Nick’s radio show to promote her role on “The Voice” and a long overdue apology was delivered.

“Regardless of my big mouth back in the day, I’ve got all great things to say about Nick too,” Christina admitted.

Nick then apologized, saying: “I’m sorry for the things that I did. We was young.”

In an interview with ESPN’s Page 2, Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada says it wasn’t hard for her to get used to dating an NFL player despite her past life as the former fiance of ex-NBA star Antoine Walker . She explained: ”I don’t really think there’s much of a difference other than his season is way shorter than basketball. And they have curfews. And we can’t stay at the same hotels. Oh, and we’re freezing sitting outside!”

Though she’s moved past dating a pro basketball star, she’s still using those experiences to write the first of three books under her new lit and film deal with Cash Money Content. On the new venture, Evelyn said, “The first book is called The Inner Circle, and it’s primarily based on my life, friends that have been in the limelight and have been married and engaged and girlfriend of players. It’s a lot of these stories in these books, but obviously with fictitious names. You would never know what situation was Evelyn’s situation. A lot of it is real, true stories.”

Hide your kids, hide your wife! Antoine Dodson, who became an overnight sensation from the now infamous YouTube clip, is using his fame to launch his musical career. Dodson teams up with artist Brent Morgan for a track titled “Lovesick Lullaby.” Even though Dodson’s vocals seem to be assisted by Autotune, the song seems pretty decent.

Anthony Mackie unintentionally created a lingering story when he shared his thoughts about the state of Black cinema. Mackie said that Blacks have not done enough to get their stories told. Speaking with NPR, the New Orleans-bred actor said his statement was “blown completely out of proportion,” but did acknowledge that it “was a bad choice of words by me.” He did, however, echo a similar sentiment, citing the late Don Cornelius, Bill Cosby, and Robert Townsend on using their own money to put their products out there.

He said: ”If you look at all of these people from the analogs of African-American history in entertainment, they gave us a blueprint on how to make money, and how to make it work. And I feel like, you know, you get out in the L.A. life. You’re laying in the sun. You’re being invited to parties. You’re having a good time. You have girlfriends, boyfriends. You have expensive cars. You forget the idea of hustle. And I think right now, our hustle game is way behind.”
