The Dream Named VP of Island Records

Singer/songwriter/producer The Dream can now add label executive to his title, as he ‘s been named Vice President of Island Def Jam Music Group.

The Dream, born Terius Nash, made the announcement today (August 27) via his official Twitter page.

“I wanna thank everyone at Island Records/DefJam for their faith in me and making me Executive Vice President of Island Records,” The Dream said in a statement on his Twitter page. “Thank you to my team..my manager Mark Stewart & my attorney Aaron Rosenberg for getting this 1st step of a goal accomplished.”

He went on to thank a number of inudstry executives who have supported him, including his production partner Tricky Stewart and Island Def Jam Chairman, Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Universal Records’ Chairman Doug Morris.

“I look forward to the challenge of rebuilding music for not only Island Records But for Universal Records as a whole. Today I’m humbled and blessed,” The Dream said.

    I know he can write bomb a$$ music… But does that translate into business savvy?

    Either he is a prodogy in business and things are going to miraculously change or This is the first event in a series exploiting the demise of a once prominent company!

    I hope he doesn’t put bs music out and sign some actual talent. I wouldn’t be suprised if Christina Milian gets a record deal. lol!!!

    I’ve always wondered,just how do rappers get positions of power in these major labels? I mean you’ve had Jay Z, Scarface and others. I would guess you’d have to at least have some sort of business ac**en. And before anyone goes on to point out that some of these rappers run their own “labels” (more like vanity imprints,the cafe press of the music world,lol. Sheeeet, even me and my boys had a “label” back in Queens in 1994-95)and their “cloting lines”,etc. More likely than not they are not the person seeing the day to day operations. Not hating, but if I was the CEO of a multi-million dollar entertainment company I’d need a little more assurance than a few gold and platinum records on the wall. Musical talent doesn’t always mean business talent. Lol!
