Lil_Wayne_Juelz_Santana_Lil_Wayne_Juelz_Santan-front-large

There is a good article in Urban Latino Magazine about hip-hop artists promoting gangs here are some excerpts.

This is a public service announcement to all millionaire gang members – “Stop brainwashing our youth you ignorant bastards!

This goes out to Baby from Cash Money Records with your big red star tattoo on your head, talking about, “keeping it blood all day,” while your son (Lil Wayne) is locked up on Rikers Island for gun charges.

Baby… How does it feel to join a gang in your 30’s? I thought that was something we did in our preteens to find acceptance, protection, camaraderie, family, etc.?

And by the way, how much did you guys have to pay for your initiation or affiliation into the Bloods? Because something tells me you weren’t jumped in or sexed in… at least I’m hoping not the latter.

This letter also goes out to the Dipset, specifically Jim Jones and Juelz Santana for introducing the Bloods to Harlem in much the same way Nicky Barnes introduced heroin to the community in the 60’s and 70’s.

Your lies and deception are killing our youth on a daily basis you ignorant bastards!

Honestly, please explain to me how you live with yourselves each day knowing your glorification of a violent lifestyle kills teens every single day?

Teens that look up to your level of success only to find you wearing “white face” and modern day woolly wigs, gloves and tailcoats… dancing for your masters at the record labels.

    LAME

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/KCeryus/ KCeryus

To the author: You exacerbate their glorification by posting non-researched material, such as the garbage I’m commenting on. My hood had plenty of gang shyt going on, including the induction of me and my brother into a certain one (I follow my Law and show respect, but I’m inactive. I’m married with kids, and I serve in the military. I’m currently in Iraq), but all the bloods were very small in number, and they preferred it that way. Now EVERYBODY wants to be a blood. The gang-bang shyt is played out. People do need to realize that, and a lot of gangs are going back to their roots: protecting their communities and allowing people a structure of family. I was blessed to be part of a gang that had structure, and that shyt is rare these days. For example, I dropped out of high school, but I was still encouraged to learn, and since I started a family at such a young age, I wasn’t involved in most illegal activity. I’m not on here to support joining any gang, including my own, mainly because loyalty and respect are such a rare commodity nowadays, but also because if you’re a weak individual, you develop a need to ‘belong’ so bad that you quickly lose focus on reality. But enough about all that, let’s talk about this stupid “PSA”:

Baby has been on this shyt so much over the years that most gang members, active or inactive such as myself (I hate the term ex-member. That shyt was for life), were sure he was associate with people’s. He signed Mack 10 a few years back, remember? He’s obviously more comfortable in his shoes since The Game has been around though. Hell, everybody is. There were a few blood-affiliated rappers already out, but The Game clearly pioneered the movement that has every rapper claiming a red rag. And for Dipset being credited as the ones who brought bloods into New York? And that was a serious comment? Gangs have saturated almost every, if not all neighborhoods of color in the US, long before the Diplomats (or even Cam for that matter) came on the scene. In my opinion, today, everybody wants to be in a gang until they get hit with a RICO charge.

Oh and by the way, Juelz is just throwing the sign for ‘east side’. That sign alone means different shyt for different gangs in different regions. Funny how a simple slip could make it look like the BK sign.

In closing, you need to do research before you post a “PSA” for millions to see, especially these people’s fans. You just come across as an ignorant ranter employed by BP. All gang members aren’t violent criminals and some know how to read and write…

Thank you so much for that post, I am in for the fight of my life right now for exposing a phoney group of friends for the idiots they truly are. Don’t get me wrong, I was amongst these a*****es too and it could possibly cost my life or freedom but it is of no consequence to me when I look at the lives I want my children to lead. They’ve got so many terrorist ties It could make the most sanctified christian smack they momma and call her a B**ch.

Yes, I want rap music banned because the only type of rap that seems to appeal in this society: the radio, CD sales, talent scouts, etc. is gangsta rap and misogynistic rap music. It’s not relevant. Ban it please.

I think that shyt is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT….. dead on! Children are VERY susceptible to influence… hell… adult are too! What do people want to do BUT be like their favorite rapper… why do you think they have them on TV commercials?
And while these rich people have the best lawyers getting them off of gun and murder charges… your monkeyazz making $30000 a year or living with your parents are getting overworked court appointed lawyers who are gonna tell you to take the triple life plea bargain!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Anthropological/ Anthropological

Cali Femme…. how many parents are REALLY raising their kids? My father was a drug addict and half raised me and in the midst of all my troubles growing up I looked to music for solace. I cannot imagine where I would be if I didnt have people on records telling me that things were gonna get better… what’s the message today? And it is all the same message too… nothing positive, uplifting or hope inspiring… all this music is doing is prepping our kids for the prison industry complex!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/blackie_kennedy/ blackie_kennedy

In my community, it’s not the gangs that are brainwashing the kids. It’s the crooked adults. Darn shame, too. The only real gang I know of with that much pull and power is the KKK, which is who I suspect most criminal organizations work for, black, white, latino, caribbean, etc.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/odoggz/ odoggz

It’s the easiest form of recruitment. NeoNazis have soccer stadiums (Europe), Monster Truck/Nascar/Internet (America) to recruit, and black gang bangers have Rap music to recruit. It’s how they keep their gang member numbers up, so that the leaders get richer while the minions at the bottom take the fall for them. That minions are easily replaceable and easily manipulated. I agree with Califemme, PARENTS need to be held responsible.

To KCeryus: I have a few questions for you…

    (1) If the article was truly garbage as you called it, I wonder why you’d waste a significant amount of your life – time you can’t get back – to write such a lengthy rebuttal?

    (2) Please tell me what you plan to do for your hood when you return from Iraq? I just want to make sure if you’re going to $h!t on my words that you’re “active” in cleaning up some of the mess our generation left behind.

You say my article is un-researched – yet I’m not throwing around numbers of gangs in America, numbers of gang members or any other type of statistic – so why would I need to do research?

What I’m doing is writing about my experiences as a minority in the South Bronx. I’m writing about what I see on a “DAILY” basis… Not some $h!t I see on TV or in the movies. I’ve done grief counseling to young teens caught up in gang banging, which is why it upsets me to no end that these studio gangsters are selling this bullshyt to our teens as something they should live up to.

I’m not glorifying a damn thing here… I’m raising awareness to those not paying attention. I’m opening up dialogue – just like the one we’re having right now – so that responsible citizens can step up and do something about this epidemic.

You all say, “It’s the parents… it’s the parents…” Well where the hell are the fathers? Dead and locked up… and what happens when the mothers are working two jobs to make ends meat? Or when their strung out themselves or too depressed to know how to care for their children? Do we all just say, “Oh well… the parents should’ve done something…”

Come on man… that’s nonsense… You say you were in the life… I say it’s your job to come home and help change some lives for the better.

I say Dipset brought the Bloods to Harlem because they damn sure spread the message to “MILLIONS…” overnight my brother… to millions with just one f’d up music video… So yes, we’ve always had some presence of some crew, clique or neighborhood gang.

You can call me ignorant my brother… But I’m from the streets; I went back to college in my 30’s… I have a Bachelors Degree, I’m a published author – the first Puerto Rican from the Bronx to get a major book deal for a memoir – and I’m helping communities all over the US on a daily basis… So if I’m ignorant… What’s everyone else?

Be safe in Iraq my brother and thank you for your service… but remember we have a real war right here at home as well… If your gang is really going back grassroots to take back their community and turn things around then I applaud them. But don’t think for one minute that’s the norm…

    Peace, Author Ivan Sanchez

It’s about time someone said something about this….whether we like it or not pop culture pop culture does affect youth behavior be it clothes or gangs…anyone that doesn’t think this is an issue needs to live a day in some of these young peoples lives, existing day to day with no hope for a future. I guess we have been desensitized to peoples pain and been trained to become individualistic in this capitalistic world. Ignorance from these nonsensical rappers like lil wayne is part of the problem and the preaching red and blue doesn’t help much.

Wait Dipset barely exist anymore and even at there peak Juelz Santanna sold 800,000 unit and Jim Jones sold 400,000. These rappers are only entertainers not rolemodels. They aren’t responsible for the youth of America that is the parents job. I listend to 2 Live Crew, Too Short, NVA, Snoop and all them back when I was kid but I had to sneak and listen to it and if I ever did anything what they did in those songs i’d get the s**t beat out of me. Besides I never seen the appeal in joining a gang as i’ll be damned if im gonna let some people beat the s**t out of me in order to get initiated.

How much did they pay? A whole lot, but, just enough to not have it all taken. They are being extorted. Those who understand the psychology of an extortionist knows that they will let you keep some, but, you better take care of the extorters. The young people are being reached through music, sex and money! Rappers serve it all up in one video. We dont even wanna talk about TV… True being they are entertainers but for who? The children!!…. somebody better wake up and see that the children who are listening to this stuff and taking it in is our future! The parents can only do so much but the friend and TV is the greatest influence on kids seems like these days..as for the gangs, I do believe it can be put under control starting at home. Unless the parents are unconcerned or on drugs. Then its time to let the law handle it because if you cant make your kids do right, the law can.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/HarrisonModel/ HarrisonModel

Its not the rappers fault. They only play a part because of the parents. Who pays the bills? The Parents. Who buys/owns the tv’s? The Parents. If parents put their foot down then the kids have no choice but to follow directions. Nowadays, parents are so laxed with what their children listen to and watch so you lose control in a sense. I was raised on 2pac and wanted to do thug sh*t no only because of the music but because i was around those types of people. Didn’t have a father or a mother so who raises you? Your Grandmother and the Streets. She did the best she could but there’s only so much she can do. So who raises you as a youth when nobody’s really there? Music and the Streets. All of this starts at home. Stop blaming others and start blaming yourself.

It’s the Rappers faults because if they didn’t push this garbage, the kids wouldn’t get money from their parents to buy this trash. Kids don’tjust look at TV at home! Duhnn! Parents could do their part and be better parents, but as long as this stuff is out there, kiids will look at it. It’s just like the Preacher’s daughter that comes up pregnant. These kids will find a way to do, hear and listen to what they want!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/SheFly69/ SheFly69

iT’S THE Rappers and the producers FAULT, which are WF! If the Rappers put out this garbage, it couldn’t reach children if WF didn’t produce it and DJ’s didn’t play it. It’s all about the money. WF make money going and coming. When our children listen to this thug BS and do crimes, WF lock them up and provide jobs and pay them fifteen cents an hour and make a profit. Nothing but ‘Slave Labor’. Until our people see it this way and stop making this chit, not caring who is hurt or the ramifications behind it, this is how it will be!

With New Fathers who is the age of 15? Grand-Fathers who is the age of 29 and Great Grand-Father’s who is the age of 43? What do we expect? The Great Grand Father is STRIVING to be a rapper a/k/a Flavor Fav for Example! To make his family $Rich$ at least that’s what he set out to do at the age of 15! We have 3 Generation’s of males starting with the Great Grand Father having procreated generations seeing him do what WANT TO BE RAPPERS DO, which is go to Jail/Prison, never get off probation, then be on parole STILL at the age of 43, the grand father follows suit, the father follows suit, now the son is well on his way today! Brainwashing? A Want To Be Rapper IS an Act NOT a Thought!

The whole gang bang, thug life image and lifestyle is killing not just our young people, but our culture as well. These rappers glorify the deterioration of black families, black women and reduce our culture to one based more on dysfunction, than on the strong, resilient community based culture we once were. Whether it is correct or not, young people look up to and idolize entertainers. Their influence is immeasurable in a young person who may be of weak character, or who doesn’t have a strong foundation of positive role models in life. It has got to stop because kids and an entire race of people are dying because of it.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/odoggz/ odoggz

    @Toni_Anthony
Good point!! But again, the ‘being a rapper’ dream is something EASY to do (considering the rhyme skills today), in the minds of those who want to be one. They think it’s the easiest path to being rich, so they take it- although they’re sadly mistaken. Even those who want to be Pro ballers quickly bow out once they learn the odds of them succeeding as a pro baller, and realize they have to bust their humps to make it in that field too. We make generations of quitters, lately, and people who are only taking the easy route out! They see trying to succeed, by means of education, to become a doctor, lawyer, scientist, etc as the hardest way ever to accomplish anything. These guys want immediate reward with little sacrifice/hard work, not realizing that there is a worse penalty to pay as a striving rapper, or even worse, gangmember rapper. They’re taking a chance with their lives, in many cases, trying to mimic these folks, but that’s EASY to do, if you ask these idiots. That’s what the underlying problem is with these black youths. Reading some damn books is harder to do than putting your life on the line with the dangers of trying to be a gang banger, drug seller, jail bird. Incredible! That’s where the parents are responsible for the child rearing, but the rappers are responsible for making the images that look like it’s an easy transition for each person, and for making people think there is a future for them, in that field. There is no future if you’re shrouded in terror and danger. If you don’t make it big, you’re screwed forever.

I would have hoped, that if these kids today, really wanted to be criminals, but not get penalized for their actions, yet make off with millions of dollars legally, they would take note of Wall Street and want to get in on that action, as a profession. You can steal billions from people and get paid to swindle folks out of money, and it’s all legal!

Jim Jones introduced Harlem to the Bloods?!!! WHATTTTT??!!!! NOT!!!! The only “real” Bloods are in New Jersey. Besides that, the rest are wannabees. It’s crazy how all these brothas across the US had never even heard of a blood or a crip and completely lost their minds after “Colors” came out in 1988. Plus, if the “Bloods” on the east coast have an agenda, then who better to promote that agenda than a rapper, so the idea that he had to pay any dues to do that is obviously not true. Secondly, JJ and Lil’ Wayne don’t have nearly that same “respect” on the west coast where the real Bloods exist. Plus parents need to raise their children right and if so, these “gangs” would not be an issue in your home!! Negative influences have always been around since the beginning of time, so stop acting like this is some kind of 21st century phenomenon!!!!!
