True people have to know music history to understand where everything coming/originated from especially when artists used samples from old school rappers/singers. Oh, and yes I know what an autotune look like…this sister been in studios over the years with real musicians/singers/songwriters.

Why do some people think Jay Z cannot rap? Have they ever witness him rapping when he was a little kid near DeKalb Avenue, Brooklyn (Marcy Projects)where I used to visit friends and actually witnessed him rapping and making up rhymes?? Trust me back in the days in any hood if you could not rap and rhyme you get boo embarrassingly like being at the Apollo in Harlem! Yes, he could rap and made rhymes right on the spot he was not much of a dancer because he was taking his sh*t seriously lol but ain’t nobody care because it was like a block party every time somebody rap! And hip hop have different styles like gangsta and conscious for example. From what I get some people think Tupac was just a gangsta rapper but I bet some did not even knew he wrote and performed poetry that was not all gangsta!

I guess you’re right DameDivalicious; artists today do need to know when to be humble, but since when is Hip Hop about apologies? If Jay-Z supposed to be the God MC, he is leaving one contradictory example to rap if he lets this rumor slide.

@ chaos1983, the thing that sets TP and Roger apart is the fact that Roger could actually sing very well, even before he used his very own method of autotune.. And during Roger’s tenure, there were very few people who used that tool but, every last one of them could sing, thus maintaining the fact that, talent lead before and after the talentless leads… Without autotune a lot of talentless artist would not make it in the unforgiving world of entertainment. And BTW, I know what autotune looks like, sounds like and can manipulate it to make even myself sound like I can sing, even though without it, I can’t carry a note in my pocket.. Still though, I’m not impressed with it.. Nothing more than a novelty like, high priced jeans with the designer’s name written all over your azz.. Doesn’t make you a model, does it!?!?!?!?!

autotune = takes no talent

Let get this right the talk box is not the same as the autotune.Roger could play at lease six instruments. To be very good at the talkbox you have to know how to play the keyboard. The autotuner was originally used to fix a person’s voice thats out of tune.

i got a nephew who tries to be a rapper and thinks he knows music, so with my other nephew that has talent and knows music came to record in my studio . he asked me if i had auto tune cause hes heard me with my band ( http://www.freeflowband.com) use the talk box. i told him no i dont use that and if i did it would be for pitch correction ( and thats what it was meant for ) he then tell me but thats what make s**t hot though unk. i cussed his dumb ass out.i told him you make the track hot not auto tune with your non rappin ass needless to say he did not get to record that day. as other folks have said on this blog t-pain does not play a talk box ROGER TROUTMAN plays a talk box TEDDY RILEY played a vocoder wich is keyboard based HERBIE HANC**K AND STEVIE WONDER also used vocoders. I in fact use both of these units LIVE i get youngsters and grown folks. come up to me asking how i get me voice to sound like t-pain and im like WTF? so i make it a point to let folks know that t-pain( not dissin) does not use a talkbox. at my gigs and give ROGER TROUTMAN props we do so ruff so tuff by him and more bounce. check us out at the aforementioned website

Never said that TP wasn’t a good producer or that he doesn’t make good music but, since you put it out there, it is questionable.. Doesn’t take much to be a producer with all of the help you get from computers and electronics these days.. Yes, it is plain to see that the talk box, autotuner, vocoder, etc are all different types of voice manipulation tools but, what separates the autotuner from the rest is that, the others require talent.. Roger, Herbie Hanc**k and Stevie Wonder is straight up in your face talent in its rawest form possible… Now where does TP and his autotuner fit in!!!!
