The thing is though, who coined this phrase “dirty south?” You couldn’t hear one Southern artist who wasn’t Yelling “dirty south.” As far as I’m concerned, the artists themselves created this segregation. I could be wrong, but Face is the first southern artist taking issue with the term. My problem is, he never had an issue with the term (and still doesn’t) when artists were using it, now that VH1 uses it, he has an issue? Lets be real, how many Southern artists would have been OFFENDED if they didn’t recognize or use the term “dirty south?” The only point I feel is legit is that it should have been hosted somewhere down South, and I even say Houston since they seemed to have pioneered “down south” hip hop!

He has every right to be pissed off. Yeah we say “Dirty South” but the fact remains its still rap and hip/hop. Most folks were sleeping on rappers from the south acting like we couldn’t produce anything that was deemed worthy to listen to. I’m disgusted at some of y’all comments on Southern Hip-Hop. VH1 is trying to put a spin on the Hip-Hop Honors. I really don’t think they intentionally did that to segregate Southern MC’s. I think they know Southern Hip-Hop is popular right now, so it is a marketing tactic I suppose. I agree with Scarface though it isn’t alright to separate a region in a honorary ceremony likt that. Besides, it loses its value at the same time to place a “Dirty South” stamp on a honorary ceremony for the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. Athletes, Musician, etc. are enshrined for their contribution to their artform not their region. Its disgusting if U ask me!
