I can’t stand how so many people act like President Obama just materialized out of nowhere when he started campaigning. President Obama has experience in society-based and church-based aid activities. He is ENDING this stupid, senseless, hollow war. In retrospect, seeing past Nobel Peace Prize winners, President Obama may have been awarded the prize a bit early in his career, but he is, nonetheless, deserving of it.

While people are on blogs talking about the President is in a process of ending wars, he is busy in his war room daily, plotting new plans for Afghanistan and Iraq. At the same time making plans to attack Iran (nothing like a new war to stimulate the economy, since cash for flunkers” was a flop) and perhaps Venezuela! I would love to know what evidence anyone has, that he is “ENDING” this stupid and hollow war?

I think one of the biggest issues with this discussion is one that I see many times over on sites like this.

People argue their points with less than all of the facts and the facts that they do have are those that come from popular media and the (preferred) news outlet of the viewer only. I try my best not to argue from ignorance. It is not fair to me or to you, or to anyone else who may be exposed to what I say. It is my obligation to seek and evaluate knowledge and to only relay what has passed a vigorous test of logic and reason.

The Nobel Peace Prize (and the Nobel Prizes in general) are given not only for bodies of work that encompass a lifetime of achievement, or even within a set time-frame. The Nobel Prizes are given to those that extraordinarily impact the most in the field in which they have won.

The Nobel Prize for Science for instance doesn’t go to the thousands of researchers, chemists, and biologists trying their entire lives to come up with a cure for cancer. It goes to the one person who does, no matter how long it took them. And it doesn’t go to them just because they came up with a cure for a disease. It goes to them because a cure for cancer is universally impacting and universally extraordinary to accomplish.

Just because Obama has not been in office long, or because he has not made a headline with the popular news outlets about issues does not mean that he has not done anything.

I personally do not trust Obama any more or less than I trust any politician, but that does not mean that he does or does not deserve the prize.

Americans and especially detractors from any politician, and presidents specifically seem not to want to give credit unless the president can “show me now”, “put it in my hand” and “show me on paper how it benefits me specifically and directly.” We are a nation that has come to believe that we are to be somehow appeased above all else to prove the efficacy of a president or his policy.

Just because the troops are not out of Iraq and Afghanistan also does not mean that there he has not made great strides in peace. He did not start either war, but inherited them both.

He did not create a sense of international mistrust and outrage toward American policies. He inherited that too.

The things he inherited were not just from Bush either. Now that I have addressed a few of the reasons why it is unfair to discount him or ridicule a nomination for the Nobel Prize, I will tell you why he won and explain it.

He received the Nobel Peace Prize for his foreign policy and his enactments of it. He is creating (or recreating) a foreign policy that is built on open dialogue, cooperation and mutual benefit for all international parties and the United States. This is a complete turn from the “Do as I say, not as I do” policies of administrations past. The United States is the strongest country in the world. This is not in question. The issue is that past administrations have abused that strength and thereby made the world less and less trustful and positive toward American policies and even toward each other. Some people believe that might makes right. It doesn’t. Might makes dictators unless you are careful. America has been branded by detractors all around the world as a bully.

Obama has through diplomacy and open non-confrontational meetings and dialogue done a lot to start reversing that image of America. He is not threatening to destroy (sovereign) countries because they refuse to give up the things that America refuse to give up itself.

He is not enacting embargoes and breaking countries’ economies because America has been refused an unfair advantage over those countries’ natural resources.

Asher Roth said that to him actions speak louder than words. It is apparent from his Twitter post that he does not understand that

1. Words and actions are rarely two separate and exclusive things.
2. Asher Roth is ignorant of all but the tiny portion of the situation that he has chosen to familiarize himself with, such s the popular news outlets that I mentioned, which are able to only tell a portion of the story, nd only from a very limited perspective.

So Asher Roth in a sense is right…from his perspective. If I did not know any better about world politics and the current and past administrations and even the foundation started in the name of Alfred Nobel, then I might have the same conclusions. I do not expect a more educated response to the boy who sang a song called “I love college” that is about pure and unbridled debauchery and irresponsibility.

That being said, I DO however expect a more educated response from us…

To tytewurk954, I must say that Angelina and her group have a done a few things humanitarian, but I must also say that the impact is nothing compared to the overall global policy overhaul that Obama has accomplished. Jolie has saved many individuals with her work. I assert that it is comparable in its humanitarian and peace garnering focus. It’s scope is infinitesimal when compared to the potential billions of people affected by Obama bringing world leaders together. In actuality, Jolie may be able to expand her mission to places that she would never be allowed to go because of Obama.

To _A_, once again I must emphasize that Obama inherited both wars that he is currently orchestrating. and to be realistic, that is the job of a president. If someone hands you a war you cannot just stop it and bring everyone home, it is logistically impossible to say the least. That being said, it is not impossible to do two things at once. he must continue to garner peace while gathering the strength to turn both of these wars to a resolution that is acceptable to more than the American people.

I think one of the problems with the people bringing up the wars is that now even the American people are cynical about our new president. Any new conflicts that occur will be viewed as illegitimate as the ones that he inherited from their original owners.

I will finish by emphasizing yet another quote. “The best defense is a good offense”. This is one of the truest things that I have ever heard. However, we seem to realize that “a good offense is not always a violent, or even an obvious one”.

Garnering peace and stability for the ENTIRE WORLD is what is best for The United States now. The best offense right now is to get rid of our enemies and it is just not feasible to antagonize or bully the rest of the world into our preferred actions anymore, because sooner or later we are going to run out of fingers to plug the holes that we (as a country and followers of presidential administrations) have poked in the dam of America’s defense. President Obama is going the other way, by turning enemies into friends, and building up other countries to make sure they have no reason to sneak around and stab us in the back when we are busy dealing with someone else that we have pissed off. For these reasons, he DOES deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. He has demonstrated extraordinary peace making along a universal (global) front.

Please let us educate ourselves, before we end up sending Tweets out like Asher Roth…everybody is entitled to an opinion, and I love to hear them, but if we are going to speak our minds, let get our minds right first.

Th Nobel Peace Prize is usually given to those whom have maintain peace within 2 or more standing Army parties, in addition to categories such as Physics Chemistry etc. ( And I agree that Obama has accomplished that)but if HE received one then CLINTON should’ve received one as well as other individuals.

@Koolio you have laid out a great case and have made some crucially valid points. I think the problem with your overall assessment about what Obama is trying to accomplish is a bit off base. First of all, the “Commander-in-chief” is more of a title than a role. Obama knows nothing about war strategy and is totally reliant on his Generals on the ground and various other advisors. You make an obviously valid point about him inheriting full scale wars that can’t be ended in time frame that most would like. You place a lot of value in his willingness for open dialogue, and the positive message that might send but I ask you, what signal do thing it sends to the world when you maintain the same Secretary of Defense as the same person you blame for getting us into the war in the first place? Are we to believe that he will truly have a change in international policy, or just speaking empty rhetoric like all other Presidents. Most people around the world were consumed with the “yes we can slogans” only because like the rest of us, have suffered a great deal under the past administration, and anyone claiming to want to facilitate real change would be welcomed with open arms. So far, the man of “change” has surrounded himself with many of the same people who have gotten us into this global mess, both militarily and economically. At this point, we can only read the signs, and from my vantage point, it looks more like business as usual rather than constructive change!

I have got say that between Koolio and _A_, ya’ll got some conversation going about this topic, but I have to say that Black people in general just fell in line with Obama without having known anything about him, his TRUE past, all we knew is that he was black and he’s in the president, and I agree with _A_, after what Bush put us through Obama was welcome with opened arms without question, keep in mind that’s how the a smoke and mirrors trick is done or thats how the Kansas City Shuffle is done. Once again, I think the issue is that you are trying to evaluate him from YOUR perspective. And you assume that the people around the world should have the same perspective and therefore come to the same conclusions as yourself. This is simply not the case. The promises that Obama made to the United States are not even part of the equation. They are completely notwithstanding as part of my argument.

I personally place no value in his willingness to begin an open dialogue, and if I have given you the impression that I do, then please let me correct the misperception. I stated quite clearly that I don’t trust ANY politician. I believe that they all have some ulterior motive.

One thing that you have to understand is that the Nobel Committee is not American, and the fact that Obama is not delivering on promises made to America is (most likely) not a factor in their nomination. You (and a few others) seem to be still making your arguments against him using what he has or hasn’t done for America as what the Nobel prize committee judged him on. It is not even the opinions of the general populace of any other countries that even matter much. The signal that it sends to the rest of the world (in general) about his cabinet that you feel is good or bad is not a factor as far as the prize is concerned.

The rest of the world started to shut itself against America and toward each other because of past administrations. Obama has begun to open them up again. The question of WHY you believe they have begun to open again is completely moot. It doesn’t even matter as to why Obama WANTS them to open up again. It may be some huge ulterior motive, which I am sure is at least part of what the change in policy is all about. One thing that is certain is that IT IS WORKING. Period.

To influence the leaders of the free (and not so free) world is the entire point. He has garnered peace throughout the world by garnering peace throughout the world leaders. What are his ultimate goals? That is a topic for another discussion. What matters is he has make great strides towards peace that are unique and universal.

What is taken into account is the impact and the extraordinary nature of his achievements, especially in such a short time. Not ulterior motives, not reasons as to why people are so receptive to him. The fact that people are receptive, and especially the leaders of the world who in turn influence the people of the world are what is important here.

I have not made an assessment as to what Obama is trying to accomplish. I think the problem is that you assumed that I am taking into account WHY Obama has done anything. Please do not make such assumptions. If you have misinterpreted that from my points, then once again let me clarify. I can only tell you what is accomplishments actually are, I cannot tell you why he decided to achieve them.

My entire point is that people seem to think that the Nobel Prize committee was looking at things from the very limited perspective of the average American when nominating the current president for a Nobel Peace Prize. Whether or not it is ultimately “business as usual” is not relevant either. It is what he has accomplished, and how many people he has affected with his accomplishments.

I also pointed out that those that were his proponents as well as his detractors tended to argue from the perspective of those that are not very well informed.

I also pointed out several very good reasons that an international committee nominated him, and explained them thoroughly.

You are confusing motives with accomplishments here. I may steal a loaf of bread, but feed my family with it. I may donate money to a children’s hospital, but only to get a tax credit for it. If the Nobel Peace Prize committee could look into the hearts of men, I doubt anyone would win the prize.

Whether international leaders have begun to revamp peace efforts because they love him, or there is some other agenda is fine to discuss philosophically, but it is an unknown, and has no place in a rational discussion that lays out the facts about why he was elected.

If I am not completely clear on this please let me reiterate…Obama is no better than any other politician. His prize nomination is for more than any American political accomplishments. It did not take into account his actual motives. it DID take into account his scope of accomplishments.

If Bush would have won the Noble peace prize you would be quiet a know that Obama is president, there are people like you who just want accept him as the president there are more and more negative comments that have came out toward him that if it was any of the previous presidents that person would have been in jail. I would like to say that first, Obama has delivered on alot of things and has made significant changes in the world today. NOw some of his promises that he said during his campaign are alot harder to arrange bcz he has so much opposition being that he is black and a democrat. Okay, why does everybody think that Bush was the problem? Yes, just like every other president he had ideas and some of them (maybe in your opinion, all of them) turned out bad, but it’s not like he made the national deficit or started the no down payment mortgages? Seriously, how many of us knew somebody who purchased a house with those terms or signed on the dotted line to pay 6 or 7 years for a $25,000 car? They are just as guilty because they knew that $35,000 can’t buy a $125,000 house or that car would only be worth ten thousand dollars, or less as soon as it was driven off the lot (and maybe they didn’t but that was there fault.)
How many of y’all out there became employees of the month, top performer, #1 salesperson or whatever title of recognition at work, before you had results to back it up?! Or did the promise of being the best or beating the deadline or saying you would stay late put that money in your check or get you the accolades before you completed the task?!!

Another question, where does everyone who reads this want to be in 5 or 10 years, certainly not in the same financial situation you’re in now, I hope? So if you want to own your own business or get promoted where your at now, how can that happen when there are more taxes or insurance that has to be paid? When you budget do you do it based on what you hope you have or what you see in your account or on your paystub? Ask anybody who is or has been in a fight or more importantly, in combat and aask how much talking helped, unless you were talking to your buddy to make sure they were still in the fight.

Ummmm, Bush created the defecit with his bulls**te “war on terrorism”. When he took office the unemployment rate was at the lowest point it had been in over 30 years. Now it is a huge issue. Also the national budget was in the pink (meaning that this country was financially prosering). So you can’t try to justify the tyranny, ANT, as much as you would like (like the good little soldier that Uncle Sam programmed you to be), but the fact of the matter is that a small factions GREED is why this country is in such a mess.
