Bun B to Teach Hip-Hop And Religion Class at Rice University

Bun B is the latest rapper to turn his focus to education this year (you might recall Jim Jones’ recent teaching stint at a New York City high school). The Texas rapper has revealed plans to teach a Hip-Hop and Religion course at Rice University in Houston, Texas next Spring.

During an interview with XXL, Bun explained that although he was still tweaking plans with professors, he would have an official setup at Rice, with office hours and all. Bun didn’t sound too thrilled about tasks like setting up reading lists, although he did express some concern about the way his status as a rapper would affect his relationship with students.

According to Bun, professors are particularly worried about students making a push to get their demos heard. “That’s the problem that the professors’ got, he’s concerned about that, he’s concerned about some people coming to class [for demos],” Bun said. “If they coming to the course specifically to give me a demo, then that’s a wrap on the first day.”

    I agree with you 110% . This is more added confusion coming from the music industry to your youth in school. But it’s not all their fault, these rappers with their filthy habits. It’s adults like MartinX4u that confuses the kid, because at 43 years old, you’re worse than the kids who are lost when it comes to direction. I read your page and I am making the call exactly as I read and see.

    You keeping it real? I am keeping it Really Honest. Help the Youth instead of staying in Kiddie party Mode and damn near 50. What a joke!

    Y’all are dum dums. stylemaker & BittrChocLady both y’all are probably mad because you’re unemployed. Bun B has been a pioneer in southern hip hop and if it wasn’t for UGK, Scarface, and a few others, southern rap would’ve never been taken seriously in the first place. Who the hell else would you select to teach a class like this, Will Smith? Stop being bitter and appreciate the fact that a university has chosen a real rapper to teach and not some hip hop sellout with an agenda.

    Bun B aint your average rapper. The man is highly educated, he aint 1 of them educated dumb rappers out there. Bun B and Pimp C(r.i.p) always got in depth with their music, they were talking about things in the early 90′s that people are just catching on to now. Instead of worrying about the cuss words, listen to the message they been giving in their songs.
