To Senor: The reason why some black peole dress like that when they become Muslim is because that’s how Muslims are supposed to dress. “Arabs” aren’t necessarily Muslim (and some could have once been but converted to Christianity, another religion, or simply stopped practicing) and some Muslims, especially those who move to the West, choose dress as such to fit in. In reality, both men and women are supposed to be covered and his outfit is a typical Muslim brother’s outfit. He’s wearing a thobe (the shirt which is actually down to his ankles) and what black people usually call a kufi, which is a prayer cap. His outfit is a traditional prayer outfit but can been worn whenever.

The Hadiths on the other hand which are opinions and interpertations of Suras in the Koran get into dress and customs and manerisms.

I know plenty of practicing Sunni Muslims from here and the Middle East and you would never know they are practicing by the way they look.

This reporter is insulting and making a mockery of Amir aka Loon often in this interview. He is cutting him off as for example in the beginning of the interview. He does not even really care to let him finish what it is he wants to say.
Then the reporter asks Loon if he felt hiphop can be changed to become positive and if it can be done without insulting others etc. Rap is a style of music, the topics you can rap about is endless. As long as a rapper has a personality he can rap positive or he can rap about negative topics. And there are already positive raps out there.
Secondly, Loon says that he loves rap music but he is trying to get out of the Loon image. If so, then why would the reporter then ask him to do the first “post Islamic conversion rap” and add “I know there is still some Loon in there”. Those two remarks the reporter said show that the reporter is obviously not listening to what this ex rapper is saying. Amir aka Loon then must explain again to the reporter that he has “veered away from that lifestyle” and he also said that he is focusing “studying Islam” and on trying to switch to spoken word now. If so, why does the reporter asks the ex-rapper again to rap again? The reporter is very rude and insulting.
And why must they continue to play the music videos almost throughout the interview? The videos are distracting to what Amir aka Loon is saying. After 30 seconds of seeing the video that is enough to understand who he was. I get it, so give the man some more respect.

Just because you quote scripture from a book doesn’t make it so. That goes for the Koran or the Torah or any other “scriptural spiritual books”. I grew up with an Islamic mother. She taught us dignity, modesty, honesty, and good materal qualities. The men in my family all had a profound respect for women. 9/11 didn’t damage Islam. In fact when 9/11 happened, people ran to Islam because they knew that crime didn’t have anything to do with the teachings of Islam.

Anyone who doesn’t like Islam has read the qur’an with an open heart and refuses to acknowledge the good the Muslims do in the community just by being a resident in the community they resided. Muslims get more respect with a kufi( male head cover) and kamees (islam style shirt) than a man in a suit. And don’t forget how much respect Muslim women get than non muslim women because they are modest in their dress. And this isn’t to say that non muslim deserve less respect.

For anyone who want knowledge of the christian and muslim faith I reccomend the book Jesus and Muhammad by Mark A. Gabriel. He was once a lecturer of Islamic history at Al-Azhar university in Cairo,Egypt. It’s very interesting it compares the lives of Jesus and Muhammad. And I must say it taught me all I ever want to know about the Muslim faith.
