Terence Howard In Talks To Portray Marvin Gaye

Terence Howard recently revealed that he’s been in talks with director Cameron Crowe to star in Crowe’s upcoming Marvin Gaye biopic.

Speaking with a reporter from Deadline London, Howard said that the director approached him to star in the film, but nothing has been finalized yet.  Howard’s also quoted as saying “Everybody who loves music will hate me if I get this one wrong.”

Damn right.

Cameron Crowe originally reached out to Will Smith to portray the legendary soul singer, but Smith declined.

Another Marvin Gaye biopic, titled Sexual Healing, is in the works with Jesse L Martin (“Law & Order”) to play Gaye. Unlike Crowe’s film, Sexual Healing will only deal with the final years of Gaye’s life.

    Portraying mellow-toned Marvin? Yep, brotha got his work cut out for him. There is and will always BE only ONE Marvin. But I give the brotha snaps for portraying him. Yes, he does have his work cut out for him–good luck Terence.

    Jesse L Martin would be a better fit to play Marvin, Terrance is excellent at what he does, but I don’t think he would be a good Marvin and I commend Will Smith for declining the offer actually no one can be or play Marvin but Marvin, sorry, he was one of a kind and can not be duplicated.

    I would love to see him play rick James and win an Oscar for it but please Terence leave Marvin Gaye alone! his work and his likeness can not be touched!

    THERE ARE OTHERS WHO I THINK COULD PLAY MARVIN!!! HOLLYWEIRD SUCKS!!! THEY ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN A BIG NAMED STAR. I LOVE TERENCE H, BUT THIS IS NOT HIS ROLE. WILL KNEW HE COULD NOT PULL IT OFF SO HE GRACEFULLY BOWED OUT(SMART MOVE WILL). JESSE L MARTIN IS THE GUY FOR THAT ROLE HE HAS THE LIKENESS OF MR GAYE (HOPEFULLY HE CAN CHANNEL THE PAIN THAT MARVIN EXPERIENCE IN HIS LIFE THAT MADE HIM A MUSICAL GENIUS. DON’T F-UP BEIGE-BOY!!!!

    Terence is good but not right for Marvin. Jesse L. will pull it off I’m sure, it’s too bad this film only covers a small section of his life.

    There were rumors of Terence playing Jimi Hendrix and that’s another tough challenge but better casting than Marvin.
