VIDEO: “The Karate Kid” Full Length Trailer

I’ve been really skeptical about this remake of the classic 1984 film, The Karate Kid that stars Will Smith’s son Jaden and Jackie Chan from the day I first heard about it.

After seeing the new full-length trailer, I’m still pretty sketpical, but it doesn’t look to be as bad as I originally figured it would be.

They didn’t set out to remake movie shot for shot, character for character, but a lot of the plot points remain the same.

  • The Karate Kid is the new kid in town (or in this case, the country)
  • The maintenance man is the kid’s teacher
  • The teacher uses everyday actions to teach Kung Fu (not Karate!) to the kid.

I’m confused as to why Jackie Chan is teaching Kung Fu to Jaden Smith in a movie called The Karate Kid.  It may seem like a minor gripe, but Kung Fu is a Chinese martial art, and Karate was developed in Japan with a different technique.

It may be nitpicking, but I can already tell that there will be a backlash in the martial arts community over this!

    Lol its the wrong title.its not Karate he is studying its gungfu and Karate is Japanese.LOL but what the hell am I taking about as if it would matter must of us listening to music that makes no sense with micky mouse rhymes

    LOL, yeah, but I’m sure they will address that in the movie. They’ll probably make a quick reference to the differences between Asian cultures, but they prob kept the name for nostalgia and mindshare.

    I got a feeling that this is going to be a great movie for kids; there is sure to be a lot of good messages.

    if ppl were going to be so negative and critical..y did u click on “The Karate Kid?” It’s not like they made it for adults, it’s for kids in general that feel out of place at school and get bullied on. It should be a wake up call for parents to pay attention to their children because the reason behind not wanting to school isn’t always about the learning part. Can’t wait to see it!

    You all may think it’s going to be garbage but you have to give the kid his props. I know he trained hard as hell for this role..no doubt about it.

    Jaden has actually been studying black belt for a couple of years and is top of his class. But I wasnt sure if the film was going to be good. I heard the movie was going to be made but was like “nahhhhh Karate Kid is a classic”. But after seeing the trailer this might work out. But it wont beat the orginal.

    ALL I gotta say isa this…………….what happen to his 1 st born son…………he must doing something more with his then tryin to make his father look good in the hollywood spotlight and i saw the movie that suppose to have his daughter in it…….but unless she part of the main character…..i never saw her name at the end of the movie and i thought they waz suppose to do remake of the swiss family robinson………….hmmmmmmmmm now think bout that my blk peeps………..
