The bigwigs in Hollywood are still being lazy and remaking old films.  Next up?  Bill Cosby & Sidney Poitier’s classic 1974 buddy flick, Uptown Saturday Night.  Denzel Washington and Will Smith will star in the movie about two friends trying to recover a lost winning lottery ticket. Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment bought the rights to the film in the early 2000s. The film will be Denzel’s first comedic film role since 1990′s Heart Condition.

While I can see the moneymaking potential of having Will & Denzel do this remake, I’m a bit skeptical as to whether or not the movie will stay true to the spirit of the original.  Will & Denzel are two of the biggest actors in Hollywood, and I’m certain the pressure to appeal to non-black audiences will end up diluting what could be one of the biggest black films in recent history, Tyler Perry be damned.  If I were casting the film, I would put Mos Def & Don Cheadle in Bill & Sidney’s roles, respectively.

I’ve got to weigh in on this one.Denzel we all know is just ICONIC,Will is good to.But some time’s you’ve just gotta leave good enough alone. Now don’t get me wrong…if anybody’s good enough to pull this off we all know. These two would be the “IT GUY’S”…But at the same time I’m still gonna say…”If It Ain’t Broke Then Don’t Try&Fix It”

I think Will and Martin would be better. They already have chemistry from Bad Boys

i agree w/the previous post – if it ain’t broke, don’t try 2 fix it! also, i don’t think will & denzel are a good fit. will’s silly & denzel’s classy. will & martin are a much better choice. or chris tucker & mike epps. and if you’re going old skool, u could also go with: billy dee williams & denzel or james earl jones (remember bingo long & the traveling all-stars???).

This is a minefield. Meaning that if they step wrong, they could hurt themselves. If they step right, it would be a miracle. Will & Denzel are up for the test of their careers.

There some things that are minefields: one of them is covering Aretha or Chaka Khan songs. The other is messing with Cosby / Poitier classic comedies. I wish them luck.
