REVIEW: Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Sambots!
Michael Bay may be mad that the press is lampooning his highly touted sequel, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, but the press is steaming mad that with Obama in office, racism emotes out of the IMAX screen in full force.
Why?
Maybe it’s because Bay and company are closet blackophobes. Upon seeing Transformers 2, Tyrese Gibson – a true herb – managed to have nine spoken lines in the full two-and-a-half hour runtime. The dynamic duo of Mudflap and Skids (pictured above) have eclipsed Jar Jar Binks as the most offensive stereotype by a CGI character.
Racist overtones aside, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen finds Shia Lebeouf trying to find a sense of normalcy in the midst of a mechanic civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. College bound Sam Whitwicky (Lebeouf) has put the past events of the first movie behind him and is looking to live a normal life.
His girlfriend played by the smoking hot, Megan Fox, is left behind, as well as his “guardian” – Bumblebee. But the past comes back to haunt the present and the Whitwicky family, the Autobots and Earth cannot escape their fate.
Fate is represented as “The Fallen,” this Transformer pre-dates the Autobots and Decepticons and looks to regain his place amongst the top of the top. Standing in his way is Optimus Prime and his band of metallic warriors. The film itself is visually appeasing with its IMAX screening being one of the most detailed spectacles to date. The plot – surrounding itself around events that took place before the first movie – is vague and takes a backseat to the fighting and car chases that Michael Bay is mostly known for.
The runtime for the movie puts the breaks on what should’ve been a faster paced movie. Lengthy lulls full of wordy exchanges between Prime and Sam don’t put too much of a dent in the action (which there is a lot of) leaving audiences with the typical “get-ready-for-Transformers 3″ ending.
Transformers 2 gets points for increasing the detail of the machines, but if I can be facetious here, the word is “transform,” right? So, why don’t they spend time doing such? I don’t know. Maybe the audience would be bored to have to see them in disguise during some scenes.
All in all, Michael Bay’s sequel is going to be a cash cow, even threatening the crown currently held by The Dark Knight, but will the racist overtones stop audiences from spending their money on something that’s insulting like this:

Actually, the sad part about this is that it was white mainstream reviewers that recognized how overtly racist these characters are- and how even more sad our (black people’s) desensitization is toward it.
We are so used to being portrayed, and portraying ourselves as buffoons, criminals and ho’s in mainstream media (The Wayans, BET, every almost every Tyler Perry project)- that we don’t realize how racist and damaging it is to our own collective image of ourselves- and of how people see African-Americans around the world.
Michael Bey- the film’s Director did not see anything wrong with the characters- even when told that people saw them as insensitive streotypes. He didn’t even pause to contemplate it. That’s the problem! When Black people accept the images, other people see them as acceptable ways to portray us. If the Wayans, or Tyler Perry can do it- it’s okay for Michael Bey to do it too.
The last line of Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing” is just as relevant on it’s 20th Anniversary…. Black People- “Wake Up!”
Dam at ease with the racism microscope…dam!
It was the same crap in the first movie wit the break-dancing, pole swingin-like-a-gorrilla Jazz, who of all the intro lines he could have said, stated, “What’s up b***hes?”…thanks, Bay, for your fresh batch of niggabots…
Besides JAZZ, I thought PRIME and RACHIT had black voices too. They just sound like older black men and the TWINS just sound like young niggaz. SO WHAT? RACHIT in the movie, even call the enemy “Punk ass Decepticon!” after he kills him. S**t it’s entertaining yall.
My question is. Have we compromised our morals, integrity, and self respect for financial gain. If these voices were from actual african americans, who were the 2 sell outs doing the voices. Because 9 times out of ten you had the “Hollywood Shuffle” White mentatlity of we arent being black enough on screen. It is almost factual that whites do perceive us as quoting from KRS 1 “All black people eat chicken and watermelon, talk broken english and drug selling”. This has plagued our race since the civil rights movement. On the other side of the coin, we do have to hold our selve accountable. All you have to do is go into the inner cities and suburbs and observe. We have lowered our standards. The number one tool is at home and it’s parenting. Intelligence and a sense of pride erodes ignorance.
while it is true in my vet own opinion..that we as black ppl have to stop turning everything into a racist cry….when some things are just simply racial and not racist…RACIAL AND RACIST…ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS!! All of man kind should look it up in the dictionary…HOWEVER!!!!!! this IS RACIST!!!!for crying out loud it says “sambots” on the title!!lol!! i mean come on we cant be that blind to not see that this is a racis slur!! SAMBOT IS JUST LIKE SAYING N***ER!! see…do yall remember in school when u learned about being ‘passive, assertive, and aggressive’? well, see, this is what you would call passive-aggresive racism!!(there is a more correct term for this…cant think of the term right now..) but anyhow, the title doesnt have to say: Transformers2: revenge of the n****rs…or does it, to get the reaction that we should as a colored ppl have???
Its really a sad thing too…because girl wanted to see this movie too…damn! they f**ked us up with that “we dont really do that much reading”….
WELL FORTUNATELY THAT B.S DO NOT PERTAIN TO ME!! so im not offended directly but i am offended indirectly…the downside to this is that its almost true…so its up to us as a black ppl to do better and stop giving them reason to stereostype us in this manner… but just think before they stereotyped us it was the native-americans first…
SO sad that they are using these two robots as an obvious minstrel show..they got black voices too.
If u are black and ur not at the least offended by this, its a shame. what they gotta do, make Optimus Prime call them niggaz to drive the point home?
I’m sick of s**t like this in 2009. Real talk.
These comments are directed specifically to dlshepp, Zimboa07, Tgodslittlegirl and BIG_DT76.
Dlshepp, you made the comment if “most” of us could stop acting ignorant…I highly doubt that you’ve met “most” of us, since there are approximately 13 million of us in the US alone. That statement comes from mere ignorance on your part…might want to fix that!
Zimboa07, you said a lot of people talk and act just like that, so we bring this on “ourselves”. Who is “we” and “ourselves”? (Oh and by the way the word is spelled o-u-r-s-e-l-v-e-s.)
Further, if you refer to the African-American community, who do you suggest we act like? Any suggestion at all?
BIG_DT76, I totally agree, we do have a lot of bigger fish to fry, but I ask you to remember that while this may seem insignificant, it is indeed, the little foxes that spoil the vine. While we guard against what seems to be the more ominous threats, we must not be complacent in those things that chip away a little a a time, at what we strive to accomplish. Those little piles of chippings will eventually turn into very damaging piles if left unchecked.
Finally, Tgodslittlegirl, Beautiful! Wonderfully, intelligently, eloquently and effectively said.
I would suggest that it is not the African American community who needs to “get over” amything. As Billy Joel said in one of his most famous songs “we didn’t start the fire”, yet the responsibility of putting it out has always been placed squarely on our shoulders. We will put it out. It is our destiny to do so! However, for those of you, who don’t know or don’t care to know about our struggle, you don’t have to participate. Just please, get out of the way!
Can we please stop finding every excuse to call something racist? I’m sick and tired of the black community using this excuse……If most of us could stop acting IGNORANT then maybe we can get the respect we derserve.
I think its terribly distrubing to read comments from blacks that its no big deal or it could be a white person they are mimicing. You can only use that argument in a fair and equal society. The point is what would most of america view in this “artistic display”. The truth….they would view poor black people. The world works and changes because of money and if u want to live in the land of denial, thats okay. But sorry to say it will no less be true. Oh and if u think that was an accident, ur delusional. It may not have been deliberitly trying to hurt blacks but this reinforces negative sterotypes. For those of us who are doing there best to effect change in our community its damaging to those whom I (or someone else) may never reach. So to those who think this is nothing, get a clue. Whether you believe or understand everything you do effects others.
WE AS BLACK PEOPLE GOT ALOT OF ISSUES IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY,SUCH AS YOUNG BROTHERS THINKING GOING TO JAIL IS COOL, AN NOT TAKING THE TIME TO INVEST IN OUR COMMUNITY. AN YOUR COMPLAINING ABOUT TWO ROBOTS? WOW.
I might not go as far as calling it intentional, but more or less a lack of creativity, it’s been going on for years, and the black guy or girl for comic relief. Transformers 2 is no different then the first one, the only Autobot using profanity, break dancing, and to die. So please don’t sterotype all brother’s because of what you see you on the rap videos, the boys in the hood, and the professional athletes. It’s not rocket science, we see it, and we know that racism still exists.
I enjoyed the movie it was very funny. If you want to stop the stereotype cast then in real like stop acting and talking like that.. Alot of people talk and act just like that. I agree BKAY-CEO we bring this on ourselfs.
That is coming for a d-head who is bp that don’t know nothing about black people. Tell to go to north minneapolis and talk that mess, he might not make it back to circle pines lily whiteville. northside for life..
WTF!!!! Here we go again with the black community, no, correction, certain pot stirring elements within the black community, wanting to find a reason to cry racist. I know plenty of white kids who could easily be seen in these two characters as well. As a matter of fact, it immediately made me think of them and not any black people. If it of concern to you, then maybe you see the connection that way and need to work within your community to reach that particular sub-culture within it. Face it, the world isn’t out to take a stab at black people, and get over it…
It’s just a line in a movie. It’s all for entertainment only. You have to understand that humans make mistakes. As long as it’s not showing or doing anything racist then just watch and enjoy the movie like I did.
Wow, I can only say that the brothas in NYC are JUST LIKE THAT.
They don’t read much either. They don’t even read the size of their pants.
Hell, I go to the club and rich athletes and stuff wear t-shirts and tattoos.
I’d talk about that shiz too. It’s not Bay’s fault if that’s what 90% of all brothers are acting like. It’s not a stereotype if it’s a majority, it’s an accurate depiction of a bunch of bums.
That was my first though as well when I saw the movie. When it comes down to it that’s all they know because when the TV comes on or the news what do you see…. Negative protrusions or is it reality. I am a server and I get to see it first hand everyday. The reality is that African Americans shine this bad light on themselves. I can go on forever but I want.
I wouldn’t say “racism is damn near dead”. However I will say that its pointless to cry about what white people are doing in movies when we do nothing about it. The Jews launched a heavy P.R. campaign many years ago to deal with racism issues and look at them now. Say something against Jews or that they find offensive and the show that you said it on may go under if they don’t apologize. Movies talking bad about Jews rarely if ever get made. This is because they control the industry. Until we start taking careers in the media seriously for how important they are we will continue to cry about what they say about us while being unable to do anything about it. If you want this to stop buy the rights to the next big movie and make sure its done right.
Propaganda! All of it. We’re all just as guilty for bloging and reading about it. Racism is damn near dead in this generation. Leave it alone. We all understand struggle. Everyone goes through their own mental and physical battles. A black persons struggle in the ghetto deserves no more attention than a white girls struggle who grows up in the suburbs and consistanly gets raped by a relative. LEAVE IT ALONE or it will forever float above us!!
Well ,for me personally,I love it.Seeing that last night was tha first time for me seeing Transformers. So with that being said, I am definitely lookin forward to this next one.
hmm…what are the twins a stereotype to…rednecks..or are u sayin that its making fun of black people..cuz i dont think michael bay would go that far..remeber one of his biggest movies is bad boys and bad boys 2..unless them movies are racist to..i dont know..they are robots..not humans..
This movie was AWESOME!! I think it stood up to all the hype & went past expectations.
