Besides the fact that I think some of the things he said were mildly racist, I do believe there’s some truth to it. Obesity increases the risk of certain cancers, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes, all of which kill Blacks more than any other race, including Latinos (check out stats at CDC.gov). She’s young and gifted, but I would hope that she doesn’t (or anyone else) exploit her weight anymore for acting roles at the expense of her health. I’m not picking on her or defending Howard. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to condone something that can cause a lot of unnecessary heartache.
