REVIEW: Obsessed? Not So Much…
Idris Elba [click here to read] plays a happily married man to his former assistant, Sharon (played by Beyoncé Knowles) and all is right in his world. But when he meets the new sexy office temp Lisa (Ali Larter) a dubious game of cat and mouse begins.
Obsessed falls in line with those homewrecker thrillers that were popular in the late 80s/early 90s and this film follows the themes and formulas to a tee. The star power presented in this movie is what will pack the butts in the seats, all hoping to get to see the final battle between good and evil. But Obsessed is subpar in its execution.
Classic B-movie filler: mundane dialogue, too little pulse-quickening action and relentlessly lukewarm material show the gap between the casts eagerness to perform and the director’s and writer’s shortcomings. Knowles has yet to distinguish herself as a credible actress. Call it what you want, but when you see Mrs. Carter perform – do you see ‘Sharon’ or Beyonce just reciting lines [click here to read more]? Castmates Ali Larter and Idris Elba both have the chops to pull off their roles. With Larter playing crazies on Heroes [click here to read] and Elba honing his chops in the UK before his breakout role in The Wire.
But their enthusiasm is key and is what makes Obsessed one to go and see in the theaters. The script fails to raise the stakes, making it a half-assed thriller. For instance, Lisa emails Derek naughty pictures of herself… fully clothed?! She drugs him so that they can pretend to have sex?! There’s never even a hint of motive.
But it all comes to a head in the dramatic fight. No spoilers here, so you’ll have to go check it out – Obsessed – in theaters now!

MMMmmmm!I personally like Rihanna because she is iconic/in many ways talent/attractive among other things. On the other hand although I dont think Rihanna is a lesbian-Gay. I do beleive the girl is either bi-sexual or bi-curious. Come to think of it, if she loves it both ways? That makes her even more intresting. Rihanna girl you are WANTEDDDD! I was dragged to see the movie and trust, we both agreed that it wasnt s**t. alot of bad acting and a plot that was predictable.
IT KILLS ME THAT SOME OF THESE COMMENTS SUGGESTS THAT WE ARE HATIN’ ON BEYONCE. ITS JUST THAT IF YOU ACCEPT MEDIOCRITY..WHICH HER PERFORMANCE WAS…ITS SAYS ALOT ABOUT YOU AND YOUR CHARACTER. ITS NOT ABOUT “WELL SHE IS STILL GETTING PAID”. HELL PEOPLE WHO SHOVEL S@$# GET PAID TOO. IF SHE IS TRULY INTERESTED IN ACTING SHE NEEDS TO SEEK THE PROPER GUIDANCE FROM MORE POLISHED ACTORS/ACTRESSES AND NOT LET JUST HER NAME TRY TO FILL MOVIE SEATS.
I agree with URNAWTEEGIRL! Beyonce is just making it because she looks good and sex sells. they just wanted to see two felines fight. The movie never caught my interest because I personally don’t think she is much of an actress. I would never buy her movies or go see them, I only support her music, andI have slacked up on that because she is just a little too c**ky for me. I like her first album and when she was with Destiny’s Child. She was alot more humble then!!!!
Please know that I am not a Beyonce hater, but truth is truth. Beyonce’s forte is entertainment. As a singer, she is ok. She sounds wonderful on her CDs because it is studio work that incorporates many things that can enhance the finished product. In concert, she is the Bomb, as she is an entertainer who has stage presence, backup vocalists, dancers, a band……… the works. But acting is not her forte’!!! She has what I consider the best management team and publicists around right now, as they keep her in the spotlight which in turn keeps her a hot commodity. The movie will do well at the box office for this simple fact….publicity. Her acting skills will have nothing to do with it!!!! Idris Elba is a very good actor. His talents have been shown in more than one movie and doc**entary. And in this movie, I’m sure he will do his thing again! As I am a Black woman who supports Blacks getting their “paper,” yes I will go see the movie, and if it comes out on DVD, yes I will probably buy it!

I strongly agree with and believe that this is something that would have just been for the fans of Beyonce. Of course they would say that she did good because they suck the S@&# out of her A@* every chance that they get. Ain’t nobody hatin on her. It is what it is.
I give credit where it is due. I am not a fan of Beyonce for more reasons than one but I’ll give her credit when she has a hot song. As much as I don’t like her I would never deny the fact that she can sing like hell. And there in lyes the difference between a hatter and someone being real!
If I was a hatter I would deny whatever skills she does have because thats what hatters do. But Beyonce fans claiming that the movie was sooo good or that she did soooo good in it is, to me, about as credible as a mother who thinks that her child is cutter than what they really are, or those people who try out for American idol because their families said that they could sing but wanna kill themselves when they don’t make it past auditions.
It’s no surprise that those who idolize Beyonce will think that every thing she does is the best thing since Jesus in Nazerith. GET OVER YOURSELVES AND HER. PLZ. You could tell from the previews the movies sucked. Baby needs to stick to the vocals.
