What’s In Store For Spider-Man 4?!

While picking producer Todd Black’s brain about “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3,” I asked a few questions about the upcoming “Spider-Man 4.” Black was understandably cryptic, but here’s what I did learn:

- Kirsten Dunst is definitely on board. Last month, director Sam Raimi was quoted as saying he didn’t know if the actor was going to sign up to play Mary Jane again, but it appears that she has.

- Contrary to online rumors, it doesn’t look like the script will feature a wedding between Mary Jane and Peter Parker. Black had no knowledge of that subplot.

- Also contrary to online rumors (but really, are there any other kind?), the villain will not be Morbius the vampire. Sure, vampires are hot, but Black squashed that rumor completely.

- As for who the villain will be, Black had this to say: “We’re just coming up with who the villain’s going to be now. We’ll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it’ll be a big part of New York.”

So who could it be? What Spidey villain has ties to New York City? Let’s speculate after the jump.

Black also confirmed that the villain will be one of Spidey’s foes from the comic, not a character invented for the film. And we can assume it’ll be one of the hero’s classic rogues. Just four movies in, the producers won’t be resorting to B-listers. So with the help of this list, I have two guesses. And again, the key is that the villain has a more specific tie to New York City than just living there. That narrows the list considerably.

1. Kraven the Hunter. He’s a former big-game hunter who captured and tormented Spider-Man in a famously dark story from the 1980s. But as far as his ties to New York? Not particularly strong, beyond being positioned as a man out of place, because he’s a big-game hunter in an urban area.

2. That leaves the best guess: the Kingpin. He’s the leader of organized crime in Gotham, and is about as New Yorky as a villain can get. The character already appeared in Fox’s “Daredevil” a few years back, and it’s unclear if that studio still owns the rights. But if Sony has worked out a deal, it seems Kingpin would be a solid choice.

    Even though Carnage would be a damn good choice as the next villain, it would have to be a Rated-R movie to actually do him justice. Carnage in a PG-13 movie would be about as good as Jason X… Womp.

    lol @ ‘Gotham’…what the hell? Trust its going to be carnage or kingpin most likely because Kingpin reps new york..only thing is Kingpin is going to make the movie so dam boring..he has no powers lol…I cosign with everybody else bring in carnage to make this a grimy movie

    Kingpin should’ve been in Spiderman, or they should’ve said his name throughout Spiderman 1-3 to build him up so when it came time for him to be shown in a Spiderman movie. They can do so much with Kingpin in the movie it’s ridculous. They’ll never put Carnage, the s**t would have to be rated R. Carnage was a ill ass nigga.

    Whatever they do, they need a new director, because spiderman three was garbage. I wish Peter jackson could be give a studio, and allowed to produce all of the comic/fantasy movies he wants

    ummmm.. Kingpin didnt need anypowers he was super muscle bound and totaly cpnnected and rich. He was near spidey’s strength but he was veryu strong for his size. carnage is a bit boring…( aint nobody crazy enough to really be him) they would tone him down too much…

    Ok Kingpin is cool but Tombstone is also a gangster who is also a blackman with a skin condition…lol.makes since to me that he hires the sinister six that may include Electro,Doc Ock,the Scorpion,the Vulture,the Lizard,or the Shocker,or Kraven the Hunter…Look at me I must be a comic nerd or a genious…..lol

    I suppose they could have Dr. Connors workin on that serum and turn into the Lizard in this one…I want Carnage but Venom was so “G” rated so he wont be no betta….as long as its multiple villians im good!

    Um I wasn’t into Spiderman like like my brother was, but I watched the cartoons and all the characters I seen pretty much suck so far. I also read a few comics as well. I atually watch themovies for the graphics over and over and over. I can’t take the villians serious enough and I thought part 3 would seem darker on the story. The Jackle would be great I think ” The Jackal is another scientist gone mad. Obsessed with Gwen Stacy, Dr. Miles Warren combined his DNA with that of a jackal after her death.     I think the Punisher would bring the darker and serious pain in the story and the clone of Spider man would play the part of Peter battling his own demons. I thought Venom would be cool in part 3 but he pretty much ruined it for Carnage. I reallydon’t want to look at a character similar to him now. Time to move on. We don’t need no more Peter Drama as well, just action. Stop wasting minutes on the film with googly eye moments.

    Okay, i am going to reach way down deep in my bag and just expose my inner nerd. What about Rhino, and Electro? those were NY villains, but from years and years ago, back when Stan Lee was rumored to have been two artists. (I am talking like mid 70′s here, people!) there were several characters that really didnt get a whole lot of play like Hob and Green Goblin, Doc Ock, or King Pin. hell, it could even be The Rose…

    I thought they canceled part 4? I always heard that lizard was gonna be the villian since Dr. Connors was already in part 2 and 3. We’ll see…
