UPDATE: Drake Explains His “Best I Ever Had” Video

UPDATE: In an interview with Complex, Drizzy tried to explain the ill-concieved basketball concept for his “Best I Ever Had” video.

What he said:

“The concept of the video is, I’m a coach at a high school and the girls of my life are all on my high school basketball team. Throughout the video you see us prepping for this big championship game, and my team ends up losing. You see the looks on their faces at the end of the video, but the moral of the story, I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don’t take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning.”

Sidenote: I wonder if the music channels will let the “huddle” slide. It was the best part of the subpar video though. Ha!

“Now when you’re out there, and they put that D on you…Take That D, Take That D like the champions you are!!”

Check out the video below.

The ink on his Young Money contract is still wet and Drake’s first order of business as an officially signed music artist was to finally release the anticipated video for his breakout hit “Best I Ever Had”. Kanye West jumps into the director chair to direct upstart’s highly buzzed about first single. Unfortunately, ‘Ye failed us. Next time, get Chris Robinson rookie.

I disagree with the statement about Kanye failing as a director. The video was different and 100% original.

its my first time exactly seeing it… that video made NO sense

Wow. I sort of thought people were exaggerating and since I don’t watch music video channels I never planned on actually seeing it. After the whole BET awards fiasco I thought I’d check it out. And damn. The first shot was all boobs! Then the girl running up the steps? I could’ve seen what she had for breakfast the day before the crack of her butt was displayed so prominently. And it’s a shame because it would’ve been cute had they not made that MAJOR mistake. Put some uniforms that actually covered something and put girls of all races and complexions on both teams and it would have been a funny, cute video. While it was Drake’s video I don’t know how much artistic control he had. But Kanye’s behind needs to stop. I have lost a lot of respect for him in the last year. I know he’s probably still reeling from his mother’s passing, but damn, he sure isn’t showing the respect for women I know his mama taught him with this drivel.

    @ 2daTopnonStop,

I haven’t seen this video on BET, I’ve seen it on MTV several times, so I hope you are not giving them any airtime either, lol. . .

    @ 2121_Byrd

look i’m a female and i feel as though if you’re grown you make the decision whether or not to be half naked in the video. . . so my point is it’s not the chick in the video I could personal care less. The video just SUCKS altogether it has no meaning it doesn’t go with the song at all, the concept doesn’t even make sense even with him explain in the interview. . I’m still lost. lets face Kanye really just F-ed up on this one. . .

i don’t like the video, the song is better. I will stick to my old school music because it will always have a purpose and meaning. Plus this is degrading women, why would i wanna see a lot of breast shaking in the video that’s what a bra is for support, and i have too much of my own to look at rather than some chick who has plastic surgery

Im older so i grew up around good music & kno tha difference of this simple minded BS. Tha fans make these cats & thy come off as dicks most of tha time. None of them are humble, u put $ in there pockets & fame & thy really think ther great lik Drake which has 1 yes 1 record out, Dream with thos simple as songs yes catchy but simple & this nigga thinks he’s Stevie Wonder or sumthin. Then T-pain, in this economy wher people are losin ther homes & cant feed ther kids here u come with a diamond out necklace tha size of a microwave & place it around ur neck lik a F’n dummy. These dudes need2 wise up, oh yea R.I.P MIKE.

i’m not pickin’ up what he puttin’ down. i see why dudes might get into it, but it don’t flow right. well, i’ll give em another chance he young. but these dudes need to step it up. they startin’ to play our sista’s of color like dumb blonds with big tits. the whole money-sex-n-hoes really seems to be all too many bros know. what a waste.

all yall talkin s**t bout this video (Mainly chicks) a video is a video. I honestly really like this song a lot n the concept is a lil stupid to me but i have seen far worse video that made less sense by more notable people. Keep in mind if u a real music head the song is what really gets u not a video. Ialways said i would rather be blind then to go deaf

i actually started comparing t to his role as wheelchair jimmy in degrassi! s**t idk!

I recently started to listen to Drake and I like the song. But when the video came out all I could say was “WOW.” It was a wrong choice for the way the video was made but he is a rookie in the game. I hope his next videos are better. But I am looking forward to hearing more of his music. All I have to say is “DRAKE STAY INDEPENDENT U DONT NEED NO TOP NOTCH RECORD COMPANY. DO UR THANG SWEETIE.”

WTF. This is stupid. the video makes no sense..I honestly think Kanye produced this video for Drake purposely because this is horrible.
