The Warehouse206 South Jefferson Street, Chicago, IL 60661

When: March, 1977

What: When the Warehouse club opened in Chicago, New York DJ Frankie Knuckles, known for his  soul, disco and R&B mixes, was invited to play on a regular basis, planting the seeds for what would eventually be known as House music. Initially a catch-all term to describe the wide range of music being played at the Warehouse, “house” came to define the raw, drum machine based edits and tracks that Knuckles played in the early 1980s.

In celebration of Black Music Month, TheUrbanDaily’s “It’s All Black Music” presents 100 Rewarding Black Music Moments, sponsored by Southwest Airlines.
