Even Eminem’s Samples Are Suicidal

By May 16, 2009 12:56 pm

One of my producer/ crate digging friends sent this to me earlier today. It’s the song Eminem and Dr. sampled for “Crack A Bottle.” The singer, Mike Brant, was an Israeli pop star who committed suicide by jumping out of the window of his Paris apartment.  It’s a rather spooky, random factoid considering that Em has revealed in several recent interviews that he contemplated suicide before going into rehab for drug addiction and  Em’s oft-mentioned uncle Ronnie killed himself with a shotgun in 1992.

I just wanna know where on Earth Dre was digging when he found THIS record?

it sounds like he was israel’s answer 2 elvis. i cant understand the words of course, but that beat is dope. some people might not like ‘crack a bottle’ but i like it. not so much the sing-rap style or the lyrics but the instrumental. dre is still a genius beatsmith. not even kanye is this good. most of kanye’s beats are average and that autotune s**t is plain gay. either go back to usin your real voice or quit singin/rappin and just produce beats. as a matter of fact, the only producer who should rappin is dr. dre. at least he doesnt make a bunch of verbal fecal matter and expect people to go buy it. c’mon, please release detox! i want it now

Goin, if you think producers are not interested in the life of people they sample then I question how long you’ve been producing.

We have too much to work on as black people to worry about where producers get their samples. All that matters to us beatmakers is that the sample is hot. It can be two farts and a burp, as long as it sparks a song, done deal. Please find something worthwhile to write about. This is Blackplanet, talk about s**t that’s important to black people and get off this FoxNews bulls**t.

Kountry, I didn’t say anything was wrong with it. Just thought it was an interesting connection. I don’t even think he realized it when he used it.
