Jamie Foxx Disagrees About Auto-Tune With Jay-Z
Although Jay-Z’s new song, D.O.A. (Death of Autotune) gave T Pain’s signature sound a proper burial, Jamie Foxx doesn’t believe this is the end of the line for the vocoder device.
In a recent interview, the Soloist star said, “Autotune is not dead but that’s Jay-Z and I understand what he’s doing in the hip-hop world. He’s challenging those guys who are simply relying on it and you know that’s what hip-hop is.”
Jamie went on to discuss Jay Z’s iconic status in music. “But for Jay-Z, he’s a god when it comes to hip-hop. So I’ma ride with him no matter what. I don’t think the song is meant to tell everyone that’s using autotune to stop what they’re doing because you can’t stop a movement.”
Does Jamie have a point? I mean… he DID kiss Halle Berry!

I guess autotune is out cause when the god of hip-hop speaks, it shall be donw…smh. It’s bad enough Jay and Bey think their gods but for the rest of the community to push it…the gate to hall is broad and str8.
I think a lot of these rap guys Hate on each other.Before the south got a little of the lime light Mr jay wouldn’t even mention talk about put in a song no one from the south.JZ’s music sound the same tpain sound the same he got to try to do something for his self and the music that has been on top for so long takeing some one’s shine is not the way to go.personally all of it is crap jz keep talking he’s so rich and t pain is all party and drink young jezzy 50 millon keys on 10′000 boats straight from columbia,crap,faboulous 500,000 diamounds in a chain all of them act like some b***hes.
What in the world does Jay Z have to hate on ANYONE for? Seriously. “legendaryRedd” u have got to be joking. Furthermore, I really don’t mind when T Pain or Kanye West use autotune. I do see why some ppl are saying enough is enough though. To me it’s like anything else ppl will move on to something new eventually.

I’m no expert but there are two devices that have been used for this vocal effect. Vocoder isss one, but the late Roger Troutman used a Heil Talkbox. Similar but I think the vocoder is more in sync with Autotune. Either way The sound is unique and when used tastefully it can be very creative. There are so many other areas in Hip Hop that deserve to be under scrutiny, auto tune should be the least of them. Jay Z’s finest moment was the band he performed with om Storyteller’s for American Gangster…Now instead of him rapping about killing auto tune, he need to play out the remainder of his career with that band!!

I believe that auto tune should be left to those few greats that did it right RIP Roger Troutman, Teddy Riley and now dayz T-Pain. Now every rap artists is tryna use tha auto tune and it has become pretty annoying if you ask me. When Roger Troutman did it nobody stepped on his toes and copied what he was doing same with Teddy Riley but tell me now that T Pain uses it every body is doing it and they have ran it into the ground. You cant listen to the radio or watch video programming for 5 minutes without hearing it and i feel like Jay its time to bury it. Leave it to T Pain but evry one else let it go please its only hurting the music. And if you really can sing you wouldnt need it anyway LOL!
Autotune just shows how far music has devolved from the classic hip hop era of the 1980’s and 1990’s and the classic r and b era of the 1970’s through the 1990’s. “Artists” today have no creativity – hence the need for gimmicks like auto tune. Corporate media interests see to it that we are bombarded with mind-numbing garbage instead of songs that uplift and mobilize. Just my two cents.
When T-Pain did it it was unique (in R&B or Hard n B as he once called it). Ain’t nothin wrong with a man workin’ to feed his family by doing what he’s good at so he should keep doing what he do.
I’ve got a problem with everybody else biting instead of doing their own thing.I mean, if T-Pain wasn’t a MUSICIAN/Rapper/Singer and Auto tune was his only gimmick, he’d be in a world of trouble because a billion clones are doing the same thing and diminishing what made him stand out in the first place.
It’s like somewhere along the way people got scared or forgot how to be individuals..

man i cant belive people are going as far as to say that T-pain wouldnt survive with out auto-tune,i think t-pain whole first albulm was good and it didnt have it on there at all.and i think its crazy how black people all waays want to down play our people.you never hear rockers saying a few people are killing rock,they just buy it if they like and dont buy it if they dont like it
I THINK T-PAIN IS TALENTED REGARDLESS HE CAN RAP WITHOUT THE AUTO-TUNE EFFECT, AND HE DOES WRITE HIS OWN MUSIC, AND GET SING A DECENT TUNE WITHOUT IT TO, SO NIGGAS NEED TO CALM DOWN, PLUS HE DOING IT TO FEED IT HIS KIDS, ITS BETTER THAN WORKING A S**TTY 9 TO 5 GETTING TAXED TO DEATH SO YOU BETTER OFF DOING IT THE BEST WAY YOU CAN TO GET THAT MONEY.

I ain’t that old but I can remember a time when an entire album could be listened to from start to finish and nearly every song was good. Now that’s very rare. Labels put out garbage and people still buy it … why? Hype and overexposure of certain individuals..
All it takes is a few no-talent, halfway trendy clowns (claiming to have a following in “the streets”), to label something a movement and the masses flock to it. It ain’t just auto-tune either.
It’s like nobody’s got their own style in music anymore. I ain’t mad at it. I just miss originality and diversity in the game, for real.
People will buy anything, but real cats appreciate real music. It’s good to do a Autotune song or two on a record, but the whole damn CD! If it was banned, Pain wouldn’t survive. At the end of the day, it’s the talent and the staying power. Even though I’m a fan of both Jay and Jamie, i’m with Jay on this one. It’s sad that fads outshine actual talent, and it shouldn’t be that way.
