Yo Nattyreds..she was “eh” at best but she should still get credit for being the first one signed to them. No one is saying she was better than the people you named but its about the recognition friend. For me it was Salt & Peppa, MC Lyte, and Roxanne.. those were my girls from day one so I can definitely feel what your saying.

Daddy’s lil girl… What Daddy dont know won’t hurt him…lol man Hip Hop was real back then… Nelson George is a pretty good author, I know its time restrictions and everything, but I wish he could structure more orginators into this show, seems like they givin out awards and honors a$$ backwards, should be breakin this down year by year that way the legends that are to come, even though it aint that many, will fall into place

Nattyredds obviously don’t know Def Jam history….

If you do the research, yes, she had that one big hit ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ (one of the 2 singles she actually had, ‘Letting Off Steam’ was the 1st one)..

Yet, at the VH1 HHHs, they failed to recognize Nikki D as the first lady of Def Jam Records, ya know, the first female rap artist signed to the label, which should be widely recognized (after all, it’s a Def Jam Tribute, so the other female artists nattyredds mentioned had nothing to do with this article).
So I can’t blame her, even though I did enjoy the Def Jam tribute to an extent. There was so much other significant things missed out on the award show, but hey, I didn’t put it together.

dam thats f**ked up how def jam did nicki d, she was a dope female artist that was forgotten, i remember when she had that video out back in the day with flava flav on it, and the daddys little girl track, def jam should have definetly invited her, along wit t-la rock, hell even orange juice jones should have been there, he was another old school def jam artist, but u kno thats the way the ball go when u dealin wit these shady music industry people. shout out to t-la rock, nikki d, orange juice jones, old school legends!

Not just Nikki D, who represented Def Jam as the first female on the label, but T LA Rock, whose record “It’s Yours” really really was ground breaking. At the time it was released it set the stage for Def Jam as a name, but the single was on Party Time Records I believe. How can you even have a 25yr Anniversary without him, I can understand The Beastie’s with Adam recovering from surgery, God Speed to him, but LL Cool J, not being there to perform?? I don’t care if he was busy in LA with NCIS, you reschedule that joint. For people out there that don’t know Def Jam/Columbia Records as you know it right now was made on the backs of, The Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Oran Juice Jones, Public Enemy and then Slick Rick. Oran Juice Jones had one the first #1 hits for Def Jam and he gets a cameo WTF?? He should have had an entire song.. They were all the foundation of that label and where was 3rd Bass who put out two Gold Albums in a row on Def Jam and were in my opinion the best white rappers of their generation with style and substance and lyrical ability?? VH1 Honors is given the Gas Face for this production…
