Kid Cudi Speaks On His Debut Album

VIA Pitchfork:

Back in March 2007, Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi recorded a moody stoner anthem called “Day ‘N’ Nite”. Since then, he’s worked at a grocery store, slept on couches, bummed recording time in his buddy’s studio, guested on Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak, threatened to retire, and signed a record deal with Universal Motown. Just last month, “Day ‘N’ Nite” hit the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100, more than two years after it was originally cut. When Cudi says the song was “before its time,” it’s not empty bluster as much as pure fact.

Now, the Cleveland-bred rapper is readying his debut LP, due out August 25 on Dream On/G.O.O.D. Music/Universal Motown and called Man on the Moon: The Guardian. We caught the busy up-and-comer between photo shoots and apartment hunting last week to talk about some of the album’s unlikely possible guests, lying on your resume, and designer toilet paper. Yes, designer toilet paper.

I wasnt thrilled with the Day N Nite cut, hopefully he can show more diversity in his music. I’m tired of listening to music about partying, cars and clothes, and sex. Lets get some substance on the scene

This dude is whack. Its amazing how record execs seem to cater to the opinion of 16 year olds who DONT buy music! They download it. So why they’re eager to impress the ears of that crowd baffles me.

Can we get another Pac? A Pun? A Big L, PLEASE?! SOMEBODY with some LYRICAL talent. Not some corny ass beat with a chant hook. I’m tired of this s**t.

I think Kid Cudi`s music is unique. He`s got the ability to cross genres. His hit is considered a rap as well as a pop song. Kind of like Neyo`s songs. That`s why I think he`ll do well.

personally i think theres way too many people in the music industry that dont belong there just because they made one track that every one seemed to like…….. then maybe their first cd is ok and then they flop.
