I see the current form of rap as the equivalent of what Butt Rock was to Rock music in the late 80′s… Big shows and money flying anywhere. Eventually it took the grunge sound to kill all that excess and bring Rock back to reality. Hopefully Rap will come back to earth.

I can’t relate to the music that is out now and I think it’s a shame cats I listened to back in the day aren’t able release anything because it won’t sell as well as commercial rap. Why is it that there are different forms of Rock music that are released from Pop, to EMO, to Metal to Adult Contemporary. But when it comes to Rap we don’t have an Adult Contemporary?

The problem wit hiphop for me is most of the “young cats” have no foundation of what hiphop is or what it means to those of us who were around when it began…therefore they dont know about nothing except the “bulls**t” or what the media puts out there…many of them don.t know s**t but “clubs,money,b***hes and beef….as an “old schooler” we need to start teaching before we complain about these new young-ass rappers…especially those of us who are still in the game….

im not even a fan of jay-z because i dont like his delivery in his music. But i can say the stuff he says makes sense and theres no doubt that he is very lyrical and i can totally agree with what he is sayin here. But the ones that dont like him and have no respect for him are the same ones jockin every one elses style trying to be the next soulja boy or the next lil wayne with no self persona.

One thing I can say is that the older emcees can definitely rap circles around a lot of these younger rappers that are out now. I think the problem is a lot of the older rappers with power arent co-signing the young rappers that can actually rhyme and has the potential to pass the torch to that next new talented artist… but instead chose to rock with a mediocre young rap artist with only an image and can’t even spit a bar. This results in an influx of numerous non talented young artist that thinks “wackness” is the new “dopeness” which in turn assumes they are more talented then their elder lyrical greats. Why you think now everybody thinks they can rhyme and once you hear them its never ground breaking because they are influenced by the new non talented artist with lackluster skills and feel they are just as good. Whereas back in the days when there were so much talented artists that were out an average person had enough sense to acknowledge that their rhymes were sub-par and fell back until their skills got better before even stating “I can rhyme”
