Does Usher Still Have What It Takes?

There was once a time when females all across the world would quiver in delight at the thought of Usher Raymond. That was the time when his chiseled oiled body was plastered on teenage girls bedroom walls like wallpaper. With grown women crying at concerts and granny’s throwing panties onstage, he was truly adored by his fans. His smooth moves, signature gyrations and fancy footwork demanded respect from men and moistened the ladies. Even when he was a child he had the soul of a real R&B champ:

“Bedtime” took love making ballads to the next level and his smooth gyrations against a guitar wooed females away from their men and to his heart-thumping concerts. You remember, right?

And then there was 8701. That’s when Usher reminded you why he was the prince of “panty dropping” with Twerk it Out,and the prince of love ballads with ” You Got It Bad.” He even carried us through a tough break-up with “You Dont Have To Call.”

In 2004 Usher had his biggest success to date with Confessions. It went platinum in the first week, sold over 10 million copies worldwide and gained the most outstanding reviews. A beautiful R&B album that you can truly listen to from beginning to the end without skipping any songs.

Maybe it was Tameka that sent his music into a lack-luster spiral of Gucci Mane hooks and pop beats but corny lines like “Daddy’s Home” and “Im ready to sign them papers.” Usher has fallen victim to “follow the trend-itis.” When he was with Chili from TLC his music used to have so much feeling and depth. Who else has so many hits/ classics under their belt (excluding Kellz)? Usher has built himself up to such a high standard and his music lately (minus- Trading Places) just hasn’t been up to par. So I leave you with this- Does Usher still “got it?”

I believe in Ushers ability to make a comeback but I think he needs to do some soul searching! P.S- Cut all the facial hair off- Not a good look.

    I think he still got it. It’s just that the quality of music sucks right now. Usher is one of those artist that got better with each album. But Confessions just set the bar so high and folks expect him to top that. If the soul ever comes back to R&B, because it’s completely gone. But if that happens then he’ll be back on top.

    Usher is past his peak I think. He may still make some good music but it will never be as good as in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Usher is past his prime

    NOPE…I think Usher has had it. I think he messed himself up with that wifey/family situation. Fans dont wanna hear bout you havin’ no wife and marriage issues and stuff. The wifey thing only works when it is someone that the fans already love…like Beyonce. Eighty percent of jay-Z fans love Beyonce too and wanted to see them get married. Usher is tainted now (LOL)the ladies dont want Tameka’s sloppy seconds.

    He is always going to have it. He’s a real artist and performer. He use to make my heart melt when he sang Bedtime(live) and I could watch that Nice and Slow video every day. I dont know if he can make a big comeback as he did on the album Confessions, but I’m still supporting him.

    @ GOTTAGETMYGROOV you got Tiger Woods out here cheating and you think ppl still not gon watch him golf? Michael Jackson and R. Kelly were both accused of messing wit kids. I dont remember that stopping their music. Regardless of that whole wifey situation that meant nothing other than the fact artist are just like reg people with regular problems.

    Usher is a really talented singer (his ad libs are off the damn chain!) and a natural dancer, not a singer forcing himself to dance.

    He needs a lil fire under that ass, but I have all confidence Usher can pull the crowd again… he needs to go back and look at the highlights of his career to date, then imitate those moments with some futuristic changes in the mix!

    Keep goin Mr. Raymond! You got it. Michael’s resting in peace (Long live the King) & Chris is ousted by his actions against Rihanna… if not you, then who else to be the next in line for the crown?

    Usher’s the truth… top class performer and obscenely gifted vocalist. It’s extremely deluded when fans judge artistic quality purely on their image, who they’re sexin, or their age etc. True artists are ageless because they’re celebrated for their art alone. They’re also people… no deeper than the everyday man, except blessed/cursed with clarity of expression. That said, singing about 30+ topics doesn’t automatically diminish one’s musical ability lol….

    I LOVE THE SCRUFFY FACIAL HAIR!! It’s soooo hunky, he makes my body tingle with delight! However, unfortunately I must agree; Usher is slipping. “Daddy’s Home” is typical, I want to hear something extremely edgy, over-the-top up-beat music like an underground track he did “Make it Rain” and sultry, sensual like “Trading Places”..I swear I feel like gettin nekkkid when I hear it..LMAOOOOO..He still has it, he just has to find it..*wink

    I think Usher still has what it takes. It’s more to it than just knowing how to sing. You have to find a gimmick or another way of packaging your product (which is your music),and yet remain true to who you are. Take Beyonce. Beyonce remains true to who she is, and still revamps her style each time she comes out with a new album.

    I think he should mentor other artist, if he’s not doing it yet.
