I am not so much a fan of MIA but I like the creative perspective. For once, you see a group of white people that were murdered because of their hair. Whats going to be interesting is seeing how people react to this video. With Erykah’s video it was pretty much a resounding hate for it and hers was only controversial because of nudity for less than 15 secs in real time. With this we see true uncensored graphic images. But this time, of violence. Its always been said that Americans are much more tolerant of violence than anything even resembling sexuality (which Erykah’s video ironically was not) so lets see if that holds true.

I personally think both videos are creative and both push the envelope. In a time when all videos and music are basically carbon cut outs of each other, I do appreciate them actually attempting to keep it artistic. I have to admit though, I’m not a fan of the song for MIA’s video and I suspect others won’t be either so we’ll have to be careful to see which criticism is coming from the song sucking as opposed to coming from the video being “too much”.

Ok, my problem is not with the video. I rather liked it. I didn’t like the song. I love plenty of rock, metal, alt, etc but this song was a bunch of racket and I couldn’t tell what was goin on.The fact that it has nudity would seem to be why youtube would take it off. But then I searched for some tribe videos and they show tribe people naked. So now I don’t think there is a justifiable reason for taking this video off youtube. There are plenty of violent vids on there. She has the right to be mad. I mean, Badu did a controversial vid but the song is half way decent.

I watched the video and I think it’s great, yes it’s graphic, but people watch enough violence on TV and through video games, so this shouldn’t be a problem for many people… hell, we see lady gaga d**n near shove her cooch in telephone and Ms. Badu is butt booty naked in her new video and yet, she gets a slap on the wrist. It’s a great video because it makes sense, it currently goes on in the world (open your eyes people) and it’s so true about how far prejudice can go, whether it’s a race or a group of people (i.e.: The Holocaust) and that is something that everyone needs to remember when expressing hatred about someone else
