Big shocker there, right? I mean it’s already been established that Fergie is the female Elvis Presley of R&B, Hip-Hop, Booty, House and everything else under the sun. But this went just a little too far.

A good friend of mine (she’s a Chicago native and shall remain nameless) put me onto a song by an artist named Phoenix Phenom known as the Queen of Chicago Juke. Her song “Boom Dynamite”, well, to say the Black Eyed Peas stole heavy from her for “Boom Boom Pow” would be an understatement. Don’t even get me started on Fergie’s rap. You be the judge. FYI Peas, a little Auto-Tune does not make it a different song.

The Original.

The Cheap Imitation.

For more info on Phoenix Phenom click here. Don’t click that link, Fergie. You’ve done enough damage already.

Celebrities always get away with passing someone else’s song off as their own. Then they get all of the recognition and the originator misses out on the profit. SMH.

Its similar, I don’t know if it exactly was plagiarism, [i couldn't take either song long enough to know that.] but they do sound like they heard her song and it was at least the inspiration for theirs. If she believes that, shes should sue them. Get what’s rightfully hers

ok…how often is it that celebs actually write their own stuff anymore. everything is reusable to them and it’s fair game

As a writer, I think it’s stomach turning to hear someone steal another person’s material. It shows a lack of creativity and laziness. You shouldn’t be able to consider yourself a real artist after doing something like this. I have to shake my head on this one. You should be sued for taking someone’s idea so blatantly. I hope ole’ girl gets paid from this. Great investigative and honest piece. We need more articles like this instead of all the ego stroking material.

My associates Black Elephant from Milwaukee have known of the jacking style of BEP for a while now. Elefunk was no coincidence. Finally, someone else may decide to listen. When they sold-out, they did it all the way. Hey, they went and snatched that paper! Dollar, Dollar bills ya’ll!

wait a minute…how long as this chick Pheonix been in the game? because you can not like fergie all day long, but she has been with the BEP’s since 2003…

I think the argument can be made that this chick is biting fergies style.

Ok…so I actually am a fan of the BEP’s, but I will definitely agree that it seems as if they have jacked her swagg!! Either case,I believe she should receive something for it because dang…it’s only right…dang..and I liked that song :( I still do too….both of them.

    Okay just FYI

Legally they can not be tried for the song, because copyright laws state that if a product, piece of art, song, or film are changed in a degree of more than 33% then they are no longer protected under the copyright laws.

The only part the stole were beats, they did change the lyrics, the did change the timing, the even changed the lyrical structure. That math right there states, that they only used 25% of the original song, far less than the 66% maximum allowed.

If they were sued, the case would be thrown out, and the song would be filed as a parody if anything, since it does use they same music, but everything else is changed.

How come no one is bashing on Weird Al Yankovich, he does parodies, and no one b***hes about that, but he reaches past the 33% minimum, so no one can do anything about it.

    So everyone quit complaining…

I see what you’re saying edword1989, but this is not a parody in any way. It’s a regular song for people to hop around and shake there butts to, not sit and laugh like “omg, he/she/ is so funny!”

They are truly garbage never owned a CD, or listened to them. I saw Will on Bill Maher show and he was talking about how hood he was.. (the show is about your intellect on world matters). Blame yourselves for even making this garbage even relevant. Can we truly look back 20 years from now and say this era has contributed anything to music?? But one thing we can definitively say is that they made Bentley and Mercedes rich!!

[...] The Urban Daily reported earlier in the week that the Peas bit off a lesser known artist named Phoenix Phenom, a Chicago-bred artist known as the Queen of Juke. Her track “Boom Dynamite” (released wayyy before “Boom Boom Pow”) sounds like the track from which the Peas derived their song from. A little credit please? You be the judge. [...]
