Soulja Boy Can’t Understand Jay-Z?!

By The Urban Daily June 5, 2009 11:20 am

…Then why does he want him on his new album? Sorry, kid, you may have the rest of the world snappin’ they fingers and stompin’ they feet (me included) to your tracks, but you gotta know something about rap before you try to create your own lane.

And “haters” don’t trip… If you can’t spit one Hova verse verbatim, you need your brain checked.

Here’s what DeAndre had to say about “not understanding” Hov:

“Jay-Z, I always respected him,” Soulja told us. “Always. But I didn’t always like his music. I guess because I was too young, and I couldn’t understand what he was saying…I got signed when I was 16 years old. Before I got signed, I heard the song, and I was like, ‘That’s Jay-Z.’ My favorite song from him was ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder.’ I guess I liked the beat or the way he was flowing on there. Any other song I used to hear, I ain’t really vibe with it like that… In the car ride over here, we was listening to ‘Brooklyn Go Hard,’he added. “He said, ‘I’m Jackie Robinson — I jack, I rob, I sin.’ I didn’t know he was snapping like that. Back then, I couldn’t understand none of what he was saying.”

Yes, Hova has more snaps than this kid has kiddie raps. But that aside, check out our ‘Noisemakers’ gallery below:

“I Jack, I rob, I sin” is also a reference to an expressway in Brooklyn ( Jackie Robinson Xway). But Jay freaked that line on so many levels

How can u make number 1 hits and not understand Jay-z?? To me that just proves his career is an accident. Soulja got signed because of his superman dance off of youtube. I dont hate on anybody in the industry cause they found a way to make money. I get upset when people think that they are for real rappers and talk about nothing. Like soulja talking about he ended bow wow career. WHAT?? Was he serious?? When he comes out with multiple albums that sell then talk. Soulja needs to find a new producer do some homework and learn from the vets now that he is in the game.

Self educate. NAS & Jay spent years honing their craft. Nas used to read the dictionary on the regular. How am I supposed to respect you when you are ignorant and seem to bask in it. Jay Z, NAS, Eminem and other heavyweights have used metaphors and flipped the English language in ingenious ways for years. Soulja Boy has some talent but it is limited by his clear lack of knowledge of even his own genre. Self educate being ignorant is not funny or cute.

I guess he got a F in speech and english class too….throws some D’s on that hoe!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant stand Soulja Boy…dude is the poster child for No Child Left Behind…his music is pure garbage and it not the direction hip hop should be going in leading into the next generation…maybe if he stared understanding Jigga, he might actually turn into a decent rapper…

Ok we all love money and wanna get paid.. but these days it seems like anyone can pick up a mic and call them self a MC. When their stuff is wacker that wack. IM a true HIP HOP head. I mean its like the music coming out now days dont have no heart. They all about the same stuff and im really getting sick of it. See im from Texas baby land of the trill where we know what real. Soja Boy is not i cant stand his music i feel like i get dum every time i hear a song. The thing i hate the most about is he think he the best. If he wasnt so c**ky and was like i do is make dance songs and thats what i like doing. On and dont get me started on wayne he is like the most over rated rapper every. Now if we go back a few years to cater 2 that album was tight. Then something happen i dont know what it was but he started going down hill. This new sound he has it him it dont fit him. but let me get off my soap box and chill. All i am saying is HIP HOP as an art form is slowly dieing.

  • 6-7-2009 3:07 am

i dont see y everybody is still hatin on soulja boy. i understand that he might not have the best lyrics or songs but hes still selling records and people still dancing to his songs. i dont see how people can talk so much about soulja boy but when somebody like lil wayne raps and u cant understand what the hell hes talkin bout people label him as a genius. Everbodys got they own opinion and i think people should jus let him do his thang and make money

The greatest thing about haveing money is learning how to help those who have less than you. This is a strength that is quiet and self rewarding..Those who get the money and then find there swagger are laime and pitiful and nine times out of ten look for other admiration to feel good about themselves. They survive off of other pain and suffering like vampires which leds to a life of dropping the soap and oiling down there but cheeks…(Puffy,LilWayne kissing a man in the mouth & calling him Daddy..And I dare them to respond in person

  • 6-7-2009 12:21 am

This is absolutely sickening to read. Souljah Boy is a moron! Someone that goes to school and works hard doesnt make jack but some dufus like this gets rich and can’t even form a sentence correctly! His songs are a load of crap. Ugh I think I’m gonna vomit.

  • 6-7-2009 12:02 am

LiL man just needs to enroll in HIP-HOP 101 and stop trying to run in circles that are above his head, come on are we really gonna see this kid being honored on VH1?

  • 6-6-2009 11:35 pm

Soulja Boy seriously needs to shut his mouth, cause he wasn’t makin’ any sense at all. He’s the type of dude that needs to be seen and not heard!!! He ain’t nuthin’ but a modern day sambo…and that’s tha TRUTH!!!!!

    GODZ_1ST_GANGSTA_SON

YOU HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!!!!LOL IF SOMEONE A GANGSTA, THUG, GOON, OR DRUGDEALER THEY ARE CONSIDERED “REAL” OR SOME EVEN SAY THEY GOT THAT “SWAGGA” ABOUT THEM. THOSE WHO ARE NOT OR PRETEND NOT TO BE IS LAME???!!! LOL THE FUNNY PART IS I EXPECT THIS LOGIC FROM TEENAGERS OR YOUNGER ADULTS STILL IN COLLEGE OR JUST OUT OF COLLEGE STILL TRYING TO FIND THEIR WAY IN LIFE. WHEN I SEE AND HEAR PEOPLE IN THEIR LATE 20S AND 30S AND EVEN 40S VALIDATING THIS LOGIC. I LAUGH. I DONT HATE ON THEM. LOL I JUST LAUGH BECAUSE I HAVE TO “RESPECT” THEIR OPINIONS TOO

  • 6-6-2009 8:55 pm

ALL SOULJA BOY DID WAS EXPRESS HIS OPINION. HE DIDNT SAY IT WAS GARBAGE OR ANYTHING NEGATIVE. HE JUST SAID HE DIDNT UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING AND DIDNT GET IT. HE IS HUMAN. THERES A MARKET FOR EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING. HE FOUND HIS. HIS OPINION IS JUST AS VALUABLE AS EVERYONE THAT COMMENTING. LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM HE IS STILL MAKING A HELLUVA LIVING IN THE AREA THAT EVERYONE ON THIS COMMENT BOARD IS “CLAIMING” THAT THEY ARE AN EXPERT IN. EVERYONE DOESNT LIKE HORROR MOVIES BUT THERE IS STILL A HUGE MARKET FOR IT. HORROR MOVIES ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS A GENRE AS OTHER MOVIES AND JUST AS LUCRATIVE.

Why is everyone so hard on SB
hes a kid that rap about id things..Ill take that any day then them shoot em up bang bang rappers/drug dealer rappers who never even saw a gun or don’t even know what drugs look like

  • 6-6-2009 7:50 pm

    IM THE ILLEST

  • 6-6-2009 7:39 pm

This is the reason why I do not like most of the rappers out today. (notice I didn’t say MC’s) The lyrical content is BS! Most of the best rap songs today is b/c of the beat, not what the rapper is spitting. Even Soulja Boys “Swagger” listen to what he’s really saying nothing to important, definitely thought provoking.
