A Dead B.I.G. Is Better Than A Living Weezy!
Today marks the 12th year of Christopher Wallace’s passing and since then a lot has changed. The slang, the style of dress and even the “pop culture” referenced metaphors have been altered since the Notorious One was laid to rest.
With all the discussion of who’s the best, who’s king and who’s overrated – The Urban Daily has taken particular notice about the ascension of Lil Wayne. The self-proclaimed “best rapper alive, since the best rapper retired” is a mixed bag of nuts for many in this hip-hop game. But we’ll give three reasons why even though B.I.G. is gone from this earth, he’s still light-years ahead of the game’s most beloved alien.
Influence:
Christopher Wallace was responsible for the entire considerable wealth that Diddy amassed before and after his passing. Mr. Wallace was the reason why Diddy had the loot to create his own clothing line and his pen game helped to make Sean Combs a “respected” rapper. The Bad Boy CEO got a Grammy for No Way Out that B.I.G. was heavily featured on, gave Lil Kim her start and was the only competition Jay-Z faced that mattered.
When Weezy started, he was the baby of the Hot Boys and although he started his own imprint (Young Money Entertainment), he hasn’t really directly influenced anyone other than Kanye West, but we know Mr. West isn’t a subscriber to anyone else’s modus operandi.
Slanguistics:
Wayne said that he came up with the term “bling-bling” which sparked a million imitators. From songs to wack commercials, “bling” was king for a few years. But B.I.G.’s “ashy to classy” – first heard on “Sky’s The Limit” off of Life After Death – is still cool to say after 12 years in rotation. Go on… say “bling bling” around a girl right now and see if she doesn’t give you the wicked screwface.
Music:
Despite only just having two albums – Ready To Die and Life After Death – before losing his life on March 9th, B.I.G. came, saw and conquered New York hip-hop and ultimately the game with a crazy style of lyricism that blended storytelling with real life escapades. His signature designs made his one to envy, as well as imitate.
On the flip-side, Weezy F. has made six studio albums and tons of mixtape collectables that helped him to achieve his considerable commercial success. Yet, still fails to hold down Top 10 honors in any weight class. Juvenile and B.G. may have fallen off the bottom of the map, but still gain the respect commanded of true veterans of the game in Louisiana. Scarface may have retired, but he is lightyears ahead of Wayne in the storytelling department and many consider T.I. to be the “King of the South.” It is up for discussion if Lil Wayne can even rightfully be considered the heir to Jay-Z with so much work not producing the same quality and sales as the Brooklyn heir to B.I.G.’s throne.

WASNT AS BIG OF A HIT TILL HE DIED WHEN YOU DIE YOUR ON A WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL PEOPLE DONT WANT TO DISRESPECT THE DEAD
Those Willie Lynch comments are myth. Do a little more research. Lil Wayne is not what’s up out here. He likes his women high on pills and has said that he gets high on everything! His lyrics lack any substance and he is so full of himself he can’t see that everytime he opens his mouth he makes himself look super bad. I’m am still in love with Biggie. Ugly, however, Coogi down to the socks…how do we stop this Lil Wayne train? If I had a daughter who said she was feeling him I would move her out of the country. Hip/Hop needs an overhaul and if Wayne is the greatest, we need to start with his crack-head ass, lol!
GENTLEMAN:
I greet you here on the bank of the James River in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and twelve. First I shall thank you, the Gentlemen of the Colony of Virginia, for bringing me here. I am here to help you solve some of your problems with slaves. Your invitation reached me on my modest plantation in the West Indies where I have experimented with some of the newest and still the oldest methods for control of slaves. Ancient Rome would envy us if my program is implemented. As our boat sailed south on the James River, named for our illustrious King James, whose bible we cherish, I saw enough to know that your program is not unique. While Rome used cords of wood as crosses for standing human bodies along the old highways in great numbers, you are here using the tree and the rope on occasion.
I caught the whiff of a dead slave hanging from a tree a couple of miles back. You are not only losing valuable stock by hangings, you are having uprisings, slaves are running away, your crops are sometimes left in the fields too long for maximum profit, you suffer occasional fires, your animals are killed, gentlemen…you know what your problems are; I do not need to elaborate. I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them.
In my bag here, I have a fool-proof method for controlling your black slaves. I guarantee everyone of you that if installed correctly it will control the slaves for at least 300 years. My method is simple, any member of your family or any overseer can use it.
I have outlined a number of differences among the slaves, and I take these differences and make them bigger. I use fear, distrust, and envy for control purposes. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies, and it will work throughout the South. Take this simple little test of differences and think about them. On the top of my list is “Age”, but it is there because it only starts with an “A”; the second is “Color” or shade; there is intelligence, size, sex, size of plantations, attitude of owners, whether the slaves live in the valley, on a hill, East, West, North, South, have fine or coarse hair, or is tall or short. Now that you have a list of differences, I shall give you an outline of action–but before that, I shall assure you that distrust is stronger than trust, and envy is stronger than adulation, respect, or admiration.
The Black Slave, after receiving this indoctrination, shall carry on and will become self refueling and self generating for hundreds of years, maybe thousands.
Don’t forget, you must pitch the old Black vs. the young Black male, and the young Black male against the old Black male. You must use the dark skinned slaves vs the light skinned slaves, and the light skinned slaves vs. the dark skinned slaves. You must use the female vs. the male, and the male vs. the female. You must also have your servants and overseers distrust all Blacks, but it is necessary that your slaves trust and depend on us. They must love, respect, and trust only us.
Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control, use them. Have your wives and children use them. Never miss opportunity. My plan is guaranteed, and the good thing about this plan is that if used intensely for one year, the slaves themselves will remain perpetually distrustful.
