GALLERY: A Look At Abuse In Black Entertainment

By The Urban Daily February 10, 2009 1:50 pm

This Chris Brown/Rihanna stuff is everywhere. On Twitter, on Myspace, on the news, your phone and here – exclusively – at TheUrbanDaily.com. But what’s alarming is how this has brought little conversation about the plight of abuse within the black entertainment community.

Some have been rewarded for their brutality, others have gained infamy from their actions, but they have not come under fire to the degree of this Chris Brown/Rihanna situation. With nanosecond updates provide by everyone in the know (and who wishes to know), the problem is laid out in plain sight.

The question is – where do we go from here?

I’m not sure why Christopher Williams is listed and not Wesley Snipes. After all Halley Berry went out with both of them and folks have been saying that Wesley was the one who hit her so hard she is now deaf in one ear.

I ageee with you Darry. This is not a black or white issue. It is a man/woman issue. It’s sad to hear what happened this past weekend with Chris and Rihanna. Most of this stuff stimulates from status and control. I got better things to do then hit on a woman that I don’t get along with. Loose and let go.If it’s got to get physical then it’s overrrrrr. No going back nor communication no nothing. It’s not worth it.

PLEASE don’t make this a black and white issue. America as a whole had domestic violence issues. But we wanna go back domestic violence was put into play during slavery….white men raping black women…that domestic violence. This lil stuff with Chris Brown and all that jazz is some bubble gum school girl love.

MizzCherry, your comment, “All these people need Jesus” is true but I went to the church to try to get the people to see that these people are hurting me i had one man tell me in front of his wife that he beats her. They thought it was funny Ebenezior AME Zion Church, Camden, South Carolina she’s the pastor there. And they have him preaching in another, the STukes FAmily thinks it’s okay to try to kill, rape, and then lie about it. Let me correct that he admitted his wrong, his mother denied knowing what was going on in 3/4 deep woods, she had the only phone, she watched her son snatched wires out of hte only vehicle I had; when they went to convention or AME Zion they left me and my kids with no water, no food, he took my keys so i wouldn’t try to get anywhere. The lady that took care of his grandmother her mother, used to talk to me and told me his grandmother used to beg them to stop doing this to my duaghters and i; and she his mother would tell her to stay out of it; but she wouldn’t keep her damn mouth or her person out of anything. She was just as bad as he. Told me, “Becuase i am not her daughter she didnt care, becuase i was desperate enough to marry her son, i can’t leave her son, i have to calm her son down,…….” thats just a few; i am a grown woman just like he is a grown man practicing reverend and can’t control himself right. I am responsible for me; but this pastor lied in court said they didnt she didnt know lies from the pit of hell. The attorneys judges all them protect the perp while the victim still suffer cause they dont want to pay.

About the comment on the fact that blacks are being pointed out – while it’s not a black crime that this is happening – its just a shame that it is period. As a survivor of being married to a Reverend who momma was a Pastor who not only encouraged her son to continue but they held me against my will on their land in South Carolina. Not only did this man commit all kinds of felonies while on Felony Parole – they got away with kidnapping, Attempted Murder, Rape and Felony Accessory. Yes its a felony if you encouraged someone to continue, it’sa felony if you knew the person that is in your house that does these acts, it’s a felony when you tell the person that is recieving the abuse they can’t leave the land; and attempts of leaving and trying to call for help on the only phone which is in her bedroom in the country deep woulds of Camden, SC – yeah it’s a felony. She owed a duty as a landlord, mother, Pastor and to the public about the fact that her son was raping and beating me and almost killed me twice on her watch, her house, on their land, yeah.

Brother that think it should not be mentioned it needs to be mentioned because if it continues to be hidden and not talked about you may find out that there are more people dying at the hands of people like this who might not make it. I don’t know why God brought me back because yes sir, I thought I was dead, but i was brought back to life to have this man having sex on me. And I questioned him, “If i was still blacked out you would be having sex with a dead body, you raped me, why?” So white, black, puerto rican or haitan it has to be mentioned because it has to be stopped. And the only reason why he never got charged and his mother never was charged was they were pastor and reverend and the police thought it was too much to have them convicted becuase it would look too much like i was telling the truth thus, giving me money for what happened was more important then having a rapist, over 4 times attempted murder who could be preaching to your children. Yes I have a letter in my possession where he told me not to bring my daughters back there. He blamed my kids for his outburst. they didn’t know until we got to the police station and the police turned their back because they didnt want to pay me. So in protecting themselves he got away with all those felonies even though its not statutory limit on conviction for these crimes in Camden, SC Stukes Family.

i think this is so sad especially me being 19 its still happening in my generation. i thought watching the movie whats love got to do with it was sad enough but to know that it is still goin on with people that we wouldnt expect is kind of crazy. I would just like to know what makes people go into such a rage were they have to show their anger in violence.

That is why the hottest black women are turning away from black guys like Halle Berry. Some of the hottest black women I have seen who are doing very well are not with black men. People can say what they want but I had a hot jamacian girlfriend who only dates white men, a lot of black guys get jealous but hey she pointed out the statistics and her experiences I cannot say that I blame her.

I agree with many comments. Do we not have better things to discuss in this glorious month? Aside of that some wonder why black males are pointed out in this article, number 1 the website and article is centered around blacks. Number 2, the black community does need to be addressed. It is a proven fact that more domestic violence issues are transpiring in blacks. We have wonderful heritage and blood, and do not need it spoiled by black males acting out. Males and females please keep your hands to yourself. If you need to hit to get your point across why be around that person? To God Be the Glory.

  • 2-10-2009 10:59 pm

I thought it was Wesley Snipes who hit Halle Berry.

  • 2-10-2009 10:48 pm

All I can say is many women and men have been abused ,be it entertainers or non entertainers. If they do not seek help they will find them selves in the same situations again and again . The article however was put together very well I enjoyed it .

  • 2-10-2009 10:14 pm

so true but at the same time domestic abuse is universal it isn’t just within the black community. but good article.

  • 2-10-2009 10:12 pm

THEY ALL NEED TO BE LOCED IN A ROOM FULL OF WOMEN AND LET THE WOMEN KICK THIER ASSES LOL THAT WOULD BE FUNNY

  • 2-10-2009 8:33 pm

This is insanely unacceptable!! What is wrong with black america??? All of these people have physically assaulted women and to make matter’s worse ITS PUBLIC RECORD and NOBODY is in JAIL!!! No one knows what transpired between Chris Brown and Miss Robyn aka Rihanna, but them. But if he did beat the breaks off her like its “alleged” then he deserve all the time that’s coming to him. Everybody is saying, “he would never do that!” or “I can’t believe he would do that” WE DON”T KNOW THESE PEOPLE PERSONALLY!!! HEELLLLOOOO!!! Celebrity comes with a persona of perfection. Flaws don’t show on stage, duh. We have no idea how they REALLY are. But on the real, no matter how upset you are, you have no right to place your hands on anybody, whether MALE or FEMALE.

  • 2-10-2009 8:21 pm
