Tupac Shakur

Fourteen years ago today Tupac Amaru Shakur, one of the most influential MCs ever, died of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest at Las Vegas’ University Hospital after being shot four  times in a drive by six days earlier. He was pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m.

A prolific MC and actor, Tupac sold over 75 Million records and starred in almost a dozen movies including Juice, Poetic Justice and Above The Rim.  Despite rampant speculation,  Shakur’s murder  remains unsolved.

Even in death he remains one of the most controversial and debated hip-hop artists ever, but there is no denying the influence he’s had on the game to this very day.

Where were you when Tupac died?

It’s been 13 years since we lost Tupac on the 13th day of September in 1996. I’ll never forget b/c of the boxing match he attended where a fight broke out, then all of a sudden: Breaking News: TUPAC’s been shot in Las Vegas. Rest in peace. His music and poems live on in the hip hop world.

Where was I when Tupac died………? I was a sophomore in high-school, I remeber watching the news when they broke the story. They played his video for “I ain’t mad atcha.” It was like a bad dream, thought I would wake to find out it wasn’t really true. I went back to school the next day and the whole mood was low! Everybody was sad! Hip-Hop as a whole still has not recovered from that tragic day!

    Peace

Yes. It’s been that long since we lost him. He was in my opinion the BEST overall Rapper to ever live. Don’t be fooled by the media’s ‘Convenient Amnesia’ or at least ‘Reluctance’ to mention the fact that 2Pac was about to leave Suge Knight’s label (Death Row Records) and start his own label (Amaru Records) and begin procedures for a LAWSUIT against Suge Knight for ripping him off out of MILLIONS of dollars! When Suge had him murdered and then did the same to Biggie to make it seem as though it was all part of the ‘Beef’ between Pac & Biggie! On top of THAT, one of 2Pac’s entourage members (of The Outlaws), who was also a KEY WITNESS to 2Pac’s murder and due to testify in Court very soon about what he saw that night, was also killed under SUSPICIOUS CIRC**STANCES before the initial trial. There’s OVERWHELMING evidence to support Suge’s guilt, but to this day, he remains free.. :(

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Arrielle2007/ Arrielle2007

It was a nice video. Its one thing to see a celeb in the same industry offer condolences but to see people who knew him personally and were greatly affected by it is compeltely different, it was touching. I do believe Shug Knight had a lot to do with his death. I once heard someone say that Tupac is underrated but I thinks its completely the opposite. Its easy to promote an album while youre alive and breathing and doing concerts and etc. but to be dead and still top the charts time and time again from the grave is amazing. He is the best.

I REMEMBER WHERE I WAS WHEN PAC PASSED AWAY…I REMEMBER HEARING HE WAS SHOT & IN CRITICAL CONDITION…I FELT LIKE HE JUST WAS’NT GONNA MAKE IT THIS TIME, EVEN THO HE HAD SURVIVED BEING SHOT U BEFORE. I WAS COMING OFF THE SUBWAY AFTER WORK WHEN I HEARD & THEY ANNOUNCED IT ON THE RADIO THAT HE HAD DIED. I JUST HAD CHILLS GOING THRU MY BODY…THEN I WAS IN DENIAL LIKE MOST PPL. IM GLAD THAT HIS CLOSE FRIENDS ARE ACKNOWLEDGING HIM FOR THE GREAT ARTIST & TALENTED PERSON THAT HE WAS…DESPITE HIS PERSONAL LIFE. IT’S A LIL UNFAIR WE STILL HAVE TO HEAR ABOUT ELVIS WHEN HIS DEATH COMES AROUND ANNUALLY…BUT WE HARDLY HEAR ABOUT PAC & BIGGIE. R.I.P. PAC!!!

Wow…thirteen years! A few months before he went to Vegas, I saw Pac at the Hard Rock Cafe in Universal City Walk. He was at the bar just chillin, chain smokin away. The girl I was with hated him, but I went up and gave him a pound anyway. He was cool as hell. Then we walked away a few feet before I turned around and saw him lookin at my girl’s ass LOL. I thought that shyt was too funny. Whenever I’m up in Vegas, I don’t go near Koval because it’s just too eerie. Six months after Pac passed, BIG came to Cali and suffered the same fate. I’m not ashamed to say that I cried then, and still get emotional about losing them both. I hated that Suge pushed the whole East/West beef to promote Death Row and make money.

@2good2bsingle…you’re so right about Pac’s plans with Amaru Records (down in ATL, right?) and how he and Afeni were working together on the label.

I’ve seen and heard Hip-Hop music’s evolution from Sugerhill Gang up to today. In my opinion, KRS-One is pound-for-pound my favorite MC, but I’d put Pac right up there with the best of them. He was a poet who had more insight, passion, and discipline for the game in his little finger than 99% of all these so-called ‘rappers’/clones out here today.

‘Mourn You Til I Join You’ by Treach was such a fitting tribute to Pac. I recommend ‘Are You Still Down?’ (double cd) for any true Hip-Hop listener to get a real vibe for Pac.

Dear mama and Brenda’s got a baby was deep, his others works were as well, but those two songs just hit him for many espcially us female. Those are few other the songs that a rapper ever created that made men and women stop to think for amoment. I wonder if he was still around just how many albums would he have out?

When we lost Pac and Biggie I felt like I lost two close friends of the family. Pac was indeed one of the greatest intellectual rappers and poets alive and he is definitely missed by all of us.

Pac was always educating us through his songs and they weren’t all just gangsta rap. But many wasn’t really listening.

    -Keep Ya Head Up
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it’s time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
***And if we don’t we’ll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies***

We ain’t meant to survive, cause it’s a setup
And even though you’re fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up

Y’all should revisit the lyrics to this song because he was definitely telling it like it is and what some colleges are teaching today.

Can’t wait for his Biopic to come out!

I will continue to keep his memory alive by listening to his music been a fan since that song I get around so yeah. I love Tupac with my heart and soul always and forever and that will never change.

To be honest with you, I wasn’t a big fan of Pac’s. Loved his music sho nuff, but wasn’t affected by his death as it seem that alot of ppl was. I personally still think he’s alive, but may have a name and identity change. But that is just MY theory on the matter.

As time has moved on, I now see what Pac was trying to warn us about all along…k-illuminati. He was trying to open our eyes to the route that this world is going and that is destruction. He wanted the black folks to not be fooled and blind to the brainwash crap that we have grown up on. They had to shush him before ppl started catching on. Now with him outta sight, the ignorance of blissful black folks can still resume. Only to put what he was trying to tell us to the back of the membrane to be forgotten and replaced with the trifling things that exist today.

Pac was nothing but a mere man. But he was a voice to the ghetto, for the ghetto. A man with much strength in leadership that the freemason/illuminati/satanists/jews/romans/greeks had to take him away so that the evil deed can continue on as planned. They didn’t want the negroe to put everyone up on game bcuz they feared a revolt from the ppl that they have abused and deceived for so long. But yet and still, the plan must go on. The more dumber the masses get, the more easy it will be to destroy them.
So in that essence, I do miss Pac. I feel his message loud and clear. And for that, he will always be remembered by me. RIP Tupacolypse. Thanx for what you attempted to do. It’s up to everyone else to pick up the peices to the puzzle now.
