Jay-Z Concert Loses Nearly $1 Million

It appears as though Jay-Z’s Midas touch could not save the first concert in Arizona Stadium since 1977 [click here to read].

Featuring both the rapper and Kelly Clarkson, The Last Smash Platinum Bash ended up costing those hosting it $917,000 [click here to read].

Tommy Bruce, outgoing president of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona, told The Arizona Daily Star that he believed the concert’s poor ticket and merchandise sales could be attributed to the economy.

“Nobody predicted the economy would be the way it is now last May,” he said.

The contract for Jay-Z, who was paid $750,000, was signed March 24.

The ASUA is expected to apply its entire emergency budget reserve – $350,000 – to help cover the losses.

    Actually I believe he needs to pay the school back for its expenses. Its seems like poor marketing & lack of promotion from his PR company are to blame for this fiasco. Jay doesn’t need the Money & Arizona State definitely does!!! So either he pays it back now or gets sued for it later. PR wise to salvage his reputation he betta cough the benjis up NOW & avoid the drama later!!

    it is not his job to sell the ticket, he was paid to show up and perform. if they couldn’t sell the tickets, they should have thought up a better line up, or got cheaper acts. i wouldn’t want to sit through a Kelly Clarkson show to see Jay, and I can’t think of to many who would. F**k You Pay Me.

    If I was Jay and this is no bullschitt, I would give at least 500,000 back. He know they didnt do that well and its not like he really needs it anyway. He did do his part for it, but since it was a university that was behind this, he should donate it to them. And i say this because if it would had sold out and 2 years ago it would of then he would of been retained at probably a million at least. Thats how it is. Thanks for helping us heres a little extra on the side. plus, he has Beyonce. Schit Armageddon could strike and her concert still would sell out at $75 a piece. its just the right thing to think about doing

    I’m all for helpin’ out students, but then again the students didn’t want to support the show – just the way McCain didn’t want to support MLK Day – his money would get some serious notice in the cause to get MLK Day recognized in the final state not recognizing it.

    why should he pay them back, do you people know how much colleges make. U of A website they just received 7 mil for mineral deposits. 530 mil a year for research the school receives.
    $19,754instate $34,964 out of state and they have like 40000 students on their main campus. Blame it on Jay-z if you want. but the marketing shold have been done on campus, tickets could have been cheaper but this school is not hurting, consider it taxes
