Lauryn Hill isn’t a rapper turned singer for the record. You need to her out in the Sister Act movie. She was a singer before the Fugees. She’s a singer not a rap-singer and her rhyming skills are untouchable.

My top two rappers who sing would be ceelo green and Devin the dude. Both soulful dudes and are two of the best to ever do it.

Pharoah Monch doesnt really sing…I mean He’s a rapper with a great voice. but I dont remember him ever singing except on Oh No…but I wouldent call that singing. more like harmonizing.

Well, i think they got all the dudes, but there are a few ladies that were left off. Michelle N’dege O’cello has combined rap and singing very well since the early 1990′s. Estelle is holding it down vocally and lyrically. There is also Mystic (“this is the life..the life..the life”). If you listen to the Drake remix, you’ll see that Nicki Minaj has a great singing voice. When Amil did “get down” on her first album, i was hearing people play that song in the college dorm and thinking that Total had come out with a new CD. YoYO did more singing than rapping on her last CD, which is why the company didn’t release it, because they didn’t know how to market it. I wouldn’t really say that Lil Kim is a singer, because i saw the Cyndi performance and she needs vocal training. Calling Kim a singer is the same as calling Monica a rapper. They both dabble in it…but….

i have to agree that Bonethugs are the best when it comes to mixing rap with singing, but they were not the first. Latifah was out for nearly a decade before them and she has always sung her own hooks. You might also want to check out Sequence, the first all female rap group, which Angie Stone was a member of. But i would like to point out that Jarule, who “sings with hoes and sounds like the cookie monster,” was left off. As well as 50 cent, who after issuing the previouslly quoted diss to Jarule, seemed to totally steal Jarule’s style and sing too. i was glad when i listend to freeway’s free at last CD that 50 stayed in his lane with a real MC and only sang the hook on “take it to the top”

So sad… Mary J, Jamie Fox, and Lauren Hill are the only three talented vocalist out of the bunch. The rest are prime examples of why music in school, especially playing REAL instruments, is in DESPERATE need of funding. True Soul and R & B is NEAT…no chaser. Stop rapping on every song!

It seems that you have forgotten or aren’t familiar with the DUNGEON FAMILY, THE KNUX, MARS ILL, The LAB RATS, LITTLE BROTHER, LUDACRISS, THE GETO BOYS, and I could go on with a few more that I won’t mention because this site talks about their wack asses on a daily basis. And if no one listens to SOUTHERN HIP-HOP then why is Li’l Waynes wack arse all over the place? Why is it that Li’l Jon became so famous? Why is Scott Storch one of the most sought after producers? Yeah I’ll be the first to admit that a lot of the stuff from here is stuff that I don’t usually dig, but your statement couldn’t be further from the truth.
