BET has persuaded Queen Latifah to host its official televised BET Awards afterparty, which will air following its live broadcast of the main event on June 28 at 8 p.m.
Beyonce ties T.I. for the most amount of nominations – five apiece, and Bey’s husband Jay-Z was announced on Twitter yesterday as the latest performer to be added to the lineup – joining his wife, show host Jamie Foxx, Maxwell and Ne-Yo, among others.
The show will be hosted by another nominee — Jamie Foxx. Beyonce and Foxx are also set to perform along with acts Maxwell, Kanye West, The Dream and Ne-Yo.
The O’Jays will receive a lifetime achievement award, and Alicia Keys will be presented with a humanitarian honor.
In other Latifah news, the artist is speaking out for the first time about being a victim of sexual abuse as a child.
In an interview with Essence magazine, Latifah says a teenage babysitter preyed upon her, leaving her unable to form relationships as an adult.
“He violated me,” said the 39-year-old, born Dana Owens. “I never told anybody. I just buried it as deeply as I could and kept people at an arms length. I never really let a person get too close to me. I could have been married years ago, but I had a commitment issue.”
