The problem is multi-faceted. As far as Mr. Roctaurus’ comment on the subject. I feel that it is very outmoded in its sexism. I personally don’t believe that violence is necessary in most situations, but just being a woman should not get one license to carry-on without fear of repercussions, especially in a world where women claim to want equality in all things. The fact is that a knee-jerk sexist response is just as sad, as the persons you feel sorry for. I personally believe that self-defense is a personal right, no matter your gender. Secondly, Gucci-Mane is not known for his gentlemanly demeanor in the first place. You don’t go sniff a skunk expecting to smell perfume, and you don’t go to a Gucci Mane performance expecting tea and crumpets. I am not surprised in the least surprised by the actions of either of the participants.
The issue of the woman allowing herself to be treated like that is another one altogether. She didn’t portray herself as the delicate flower in this venue, and definitely did her own bit of provoking. Was his reaction warranted? probably not. Was his reaction expected and in keeping with the persona he has portrayed since his inception into mass media? absolutely. The issue is greater than him though. Gucci Mane exists through cultural reinforcement, and not just through Black reinforcement.
