VIDEO: Is Mary J. Blige Dissing Keyshia In New Song?

By The Urban Daily July 22, 2009 11:45 pm

<br />

VIA BS:

A new Mary J. Blige single has leaked to the net. Produced by Polow Da Don “Queen” is an uptempo jam that showcases a feistier side of Mary than many of her fans are used to. Just as he did with Keri Hilson diss track, “Turnin’ Me Off,” Polow seems to be using a bit of controversy to garner attention for Mary’s new project.

The Queen’s aggressive lyrics and in your face beat will no doubt have many people wondering if this tune is aimed at Keyshia Cole, a singer some say is the heir apparent to MJB’s throne. Remember when Mary had words for Keyshia before? If not, click here to see what she had to say to the young R&B star!

I mean who else could she be talking about with lyrics like this (at the :40 mark):

Yeah, I made that sound, I been did that/I been killed that/So anything you doing will be my old scraps/You can’t do it/They can’t do it/Wish they did it like I can…

Check out “Queen” below and look for Mary to hit the radio circuit in the next few weeks as speculation grows on who’s she’s talking about.

Peep these clones and see if anyone in it is familiar to Mary J. Blige’s style:

I seriously doubt the lyrics of this song is referencing KC or anyone else for that matter. MJB does not strike me as the petty/controversial type. She has been a major R&B icon for nearly 2 decades now and she hasn’t made any controversial songs in the past. Why would she start now??? I won’t feed into the negativity. KC knows she still got work to do (don’t we all???) and MJB is is honing her craft. I can respect them both for that. Ladies keep doin’ your thang…I support you both :) .

Not to take anything away from MJB but yes she has been there and done that. This song does not sound like something Mary would write, sing or even contribute to. I’m not going to say that she is talking about KC but if she is that says a lot about who we onsider “The Queen”. To me it shows a lil hate. MJB and KC are excellent at what they do. Instead of giving the media what they want (controversy)they should put MJB and KC 2gether and make a dynamic independent woman duo. We as black females have been looked down upon 4 too long. But if it sells do your damn thing with no hard feelings

She looks pretty in that angle! Well thats music industry always had a new style and approach!

  • 7-25-2009 1:13 am

I don’t think she is talking to anyone specifically. She is just singing her song. Don’t hype it up to be more than it is, trying to cause a riff between the two. Keyshia ignore the hype and Mary keep doing your thing! There is more than enough room for both of you! You are both wonderful singers in your own way!

We all know there’s only one Mary and Keshia is still growing and learning the same way Mary had too. Keshia just hasn’t gone through the pain and heartache that Mary went through and personally I hope she never has to. She’s already ladylike and doesn’t have to be schooled on how she needs to act in public when Veronica Webb tried to help her and she beat her ass. Anyway, we all love Mary that’s for sure. I hope she’s not feeling threatened in anyway.

CAN WE JUST GET ALONG WITH ONE ANOTHER PLEASE MARY YOU CAN SING AND KEYSHIA CAN SING ALSO SO I DONT GET IT COME ON YOU PEOPLE

  • 7-24-2009 6:08 pm

Now Mary I cant tell if its a diss song or what bc I havent seen it. If it is, Why? As a diva whose been there I feel like you would be prud of that and embrace Keyshia and lift her up. To dis her would be a sign of defeat to me(no disrespect) dats how I feel. Mary is the Queen and always will be. Mary continues to get better!!

i feel you damntruth69 but i don’t know if you remeber not to long ago that the media was saying that ciara was biting beyonce. it’s so crazy; the media creates and publicizes beef in the black entertainment world. look at biggie and pac. i bet you never hear how brittany is biting madonna or how much gwen stefani looks and acts like blondie of pat benetar

  • 7-24-2009 4:17 pm

Here we go again. Do you guys really think Mary J needs some bulls**t ass publicity stunt like this for her “upcoming project?” Just because she says that in the song does not mean she is talking about KC. Maybe she is addressing not one but a few people. Let’s also not forget that in the begining of Mary’s career she did alot of “old-school remakes” herself. so there have been people there and done that before her too. So I don’t really think Mary is that shallow, do you?

  • 7-24-2009 4:04 pm

i don’t like many female r&b singers but i can MJB does kill KC on the mic. but when i was watching the bet awards i was thinking i know i wouldn’t let someone out sing me on my own song, but that’s what Monica did to KC. like ive read on the comments KC gets better with every album but she’s not getting better with every performance, ie. bet awards. either you got it(MJB) or you don’t(KC). but don’t get it wrong i’m always glad to see black people doing something positive; so KC keep doing you’re own thang no matter what. same goes to MJB

music is for the soul these two women our truly bless to sing to our souls like many sisters before theme im a music freak this my view mary j is the past and present and keshia is the present and future meaning for fake cridicts there both are most needed in our culture of music

  • 7-24-2009 2:27 pm

i love mary and i love keyshia media is a trip but they have to fed on something but mary i need some more slow jams.

  • 7-24-2009 12:51 pm

and the song is stupid as hell…i wish mary would come out with some more beautiful slow songs like she did in the 90’s. all this “new attitude, i know i’m better than everybody else” s**t is stupid

  • 7-24-2009 12:46 pm

amazed at how yall sayin Keshia Cole is “real singer”….i understand if u think MJB is not that great of a singer but you got some nerve to say that keshia cole doesn’t sound like she’s screaming sometimes…

  • 7-24-2009 12:46 pm

I laugh at those who dont have a clue about music. Keisha cant even hold a glass of water next to Mary. Its obvious you people dont know the real deal comparing mary to Stephanie Mill and so on> Mary can sing she knows how to hit rifts very few artists can do that AS A MATTER OF FACT I THINK MARY IS TALKING ABOUT BEYONCE cause kayshia is nowhere in the same class. keyshai and yes im spelling her name wrong purposely she gets no respect from me when she doesnt respect her own mother for running around drunk and drugged out and allowing the devil to take over her life. DO YOUR THING MARY!!!!!!! AHAYAH BAHASHAM YASHAYAH

  • 7-24-2009 12:43 pm

Mary ain’t neva been able to sing but she has good songs with good lyrical content. It’s easy to identify with Mary and the same can be said about Keyshia. One main difference is Keyshia’s vocals are getting better with each album. You can tell she’s getting some vocal coaching.

  • 7-24-2009 11:11 am

All things come to an end eventually….whether we like it or not…Mary should just provide the example…she took other people’s place…like Stephanie Mills…Jody Watley…and even the great Patti Labelle is no longer in the spotlight…just enjoy the time you had on top Mary…you had one of the better runs in the industry…

  • 7-24-2009 10:50 am

First of all I am an old school I remember Mary J and she really cannot sing at all…Chaka Khan told Bobbito that Mary is a wonderful entertainer but she sings off key….Keyshia is a real singer and an entertainer. So Mary might feel threatened, Mary is definately not a singer but she is entertaining…But I like Keyshia’s flava. To each its own…but Mary can’t sing on tune for her life…..

  • 7-24-2009 10:26 am

Mary can do no wrong, she’s worked hard for her title. I like Keisha but you can’t compare the two and all this talk about heir to MJB’s throne is crazy. MJB for life.

  • 7-24-2009 9:36 am

I am almost 40 and think the snippet is corny. Now she is trying to be like Keyshia Cole and I will remind everyone when MJB came out she sounded like someone skinning a cat. If you remember after the first single came out she started drinking and alcohol can ruin your voice. KEYSHIA WILL SURPASS MJB! It’s a matter of time like everything else.

  • 7-24-2009 9:26 am

it always hasto b some dick head starting some s**t. both lady’s can sing,so y can we leave it like that.we should b mad at the person who wrote that s**t. simple bastard

  • 7-24-2009 8:44 am

someone need’s to tell mary j that the road got to end somewhere, she alta to be very proud of keisha cole and leave the beef along, mary can be a very good lady for all of the young singer’s and help them and teach them, after all every last one of them have had a bad relationship with a man, unless she know for a fact that she was being diss, like jaheim once said for women to make it they gotta get on there knee’s and preform

  • 7-24-2009 7:48 am

The ONLY people who side with keyshia are the ones too young to know what real music is. It’s a shame all your young artists have no substance in their music, just gimmicks, and stupid ass dances. Bow Down to the QUEEN, MJB!!

  • 7-24-2009 7:42 am

I LOVE THIS TRACK!! It’s HOT, and yes i hope MJB IS dissin’ keyshia, cause i am not a fan of hers. Keyshia will NEVER reach the status that Mary has, and will not have the longevity mary has enjoyed throughout her career. As someone from the old school, i love it when our “REAL ARTISTS”, show these young, milk on the breath(if you don’t know what that means, you must be under 40)artists what real talent is. Go Mary, i’m in your corner all the way. Fu_k these new school, american idol, studio artists!!
