Obviously many of you have not heard Pharrell’s pet project N.E.R.D. He is really a gifted musician and his collaboration with Dwele is ridiculously, crazy good! Musicianship has been lost, all people know how to do is use Fuity Loop, Reasons, Acid and the like. Listen if you can’t play an instrument, if you don’t understand music theory, you are NOT making GOOD music. So for all of you that think that your stuff is good becuase it sounds like what you hear on the radio, know that’s EXACTLY why what you make is crap!

It’s the record companies fault for pumping out this crap. Now as far as production of tracks, it depends on the sound you want to hear. It’s a huge plus if you can play an instrument and it gives you an extra leg up on the skills. And I admit, all producers should know how to play an instrument. But ppl can’t knock tracks that are compose on a computer. As long as it blended good and don’t sound like a bunch of rattling noise, its music. If you make a track via Reason or Logic Pro and it makes ppl want to dance and nod their head, its music. Point blank. In the end, ppl don’t care if it was constructed through a live band or one guy behind a computer playing with digital sounds, in the end the ppl want something that makes them want vibe out. But like the old saying goes when it comes to music: If you don’t like it, change the station. In this day in age of this “new form of hip hop”, that’s exactly what I been doing

There is talent out there. The lack of talent from major labels and radio plays isn’t the fault of the companies or stations; but of the listeners. If we stop supporting via CD sales, downloads, ring tones, and concerts for wack acts the companies will stop signing them. Call your local station and request/demand the songs you want. Or, like a previous poster said, change the station. Established artists complaining about their art is really lame, because they have a chance to make a change. Stop talking and start doing. You’re pretty famous, Pharrell, stop finding weak acts like Clipse and the “Google Me” chick and find the REAL talent out there that you’re looking for. You have the power to bring talent to light. I have to respectfully disagree with you there. We have real talent that COULD make it today out there today if people could HEAR them. We have allowed out radio waves to be hijacked by big conglomerate corporations who could not care less about talent or substance. Its all about the bottom line and the future bottom line. A lot of the music and imagery we consume now is strategic. Its designed to make you a good consumer in the future by shaping the way we see the world and molding our self image. That’s why there is no “feel good” music or “music of substance”. They don’t want you thinking critically. They want you buying into foolishness that you will hate yourself for tomorrow.Then they’ll sell you a product that will make you feel better about that too. But listen to Jasmine Sullivan, Jennifer Hudson, Reuben Studdard. Real music is being made…it just can’t get airplay. The people are hungry, they just don’t have access to the dinner table.
